[Convention] Vanhoover Pony Expo · 1:46am Dec 4th, 2018

For those who remember BronyCAN, the local convention near and dear to my heart that ceased operations as of 2017, a successor has risen from the ashes to take its place: Vanhoover Pony Expo!

This event will take place at the unusual time of January 11-13, in about five weeks. It will be held at the same place BronyCAN was. Of course, I'd be remiss not to once again take up the mantle of fanfiction panel host, so I will be running a panel called "Fanfiction and the Creative Process" on the evening of Friday, January 11, from 6:45 until 7:45 with fellow returning panelists Horse Voice and vren55.

When I contacted their programming staff, they said they only wanted to run one writing panel, so that's why this one has a more general topic as opposed to a few specific panels I'd have wanted to run. If you're able to, you should consider going, and if you're going to the event already, swing by the panel! I'd love to see you there.

Additionally, there is a chance I will be bringing the popular Bronycon after-dark panel "Fifty Shades of Neigh" to VPE as my first-ever solo panel. Once I receive conformation of its acceptance or rejection, I'll update this blog accordingly. Since their programming staff were willing to entertain the idea of a clopfic panel at their event, I decided to go ahead and submit one.

>"Fifty Shades of Neigh" becomes a solo panel

When I went this year, thought the rapport that you and those other two dudes had was really neat. I'm confident that you'll have the pull to do it alone, though. It was a fun panel.

It's not solo by choice. Neither of my co-panelists do clop, and none of the Bronycon Fifty Shades crew will be at VPE, so I need to fly solo this time. I hope I'll be able to pull off a solo panel, as it's something I've never attempted before.

I appreciate the vote of confidence, though!

The audience will mostly be your fellow Canucks, so I don't imagine that it'll be a high-pressure situation. Anything goes wrong, just offer some decent whiskey, flapjacks and maple syrup, and serve on a goalie stick.

There'll no doubt be some form of room party happening, so I can just drink until I forget about it if it goes badly.

Ah, caught your panel with Horse Voice at BronyCan 2017, this will definitely be on the "to attend" list for Vanhoover. Glad you're back, looking forward to the con! :pinkiehappy:

Take it from a Canuck, if he doesn't also have Tim Horton's on that stick there could yet be blood, eh. :flutterrage:

Awesome! I look forward to seeing you in the audience again. Hopefully you'll find what we have to say useful. One challenge of having run so many panels over the past six years is keeping things fresh.

Helpful yes, but my biggest issue is how to stop the stories from running away in my imagination and turning into blasted epics... :rainbowlaugh:

As someone who's working on a story that's shaping up to be in excess of 300,000 words, I'm not sure if I'll be much help. But Horse Voice hasn't written anything novel-length, so maybe he'll be able to offer some advice!

Timbits are the fucking best thing your country has produced, hands down.

*giggles* No argument here (reaches for his double/double)! :pinkiehappy:

My flights have been booked for a while now. I guess I need to register too soon.

Sounds like fun! One of these years I'll hit a con outside the states. Enjoy yourself till then!
