    Explanations

It is said that “Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it.” I apologize for the rather lengthy text that follows, but feel that to properly explain the current situation i need to give a brief overview of how we got here, also giving you the information required so you can make the most appropriate choices to bring about your own desired future.

    So Long

In my blog post from the 3rd of December i told the story of my somewhat long and frustrating search for an editor, and requested, if people would like “In which Spike …” to continue, that they contact me and help out as editors. The response was rather underwhelming. Of the over 200 people who read

    Happy Holidays

This one will be gone for a little while, probably until next year.
I wish all of you a merry Christmas, jolly Yuletide, cheerful Consumer-Day or whatever else you happen to celebrate.

Inspired by Stanku: Cruelty in Fiction and why it upsets Readers so much

This is a response to Stanku's blog post in which he comments on his experiences after posting fiction which included sexual violence with pornographic intent. Stanku argued that talking of such a thing as cruelty in fiction does not make sense,

[Archived] “In which Spike ...” is looking for an Editor · 8:41am Dec 3rd, 2018

Please consider this post to be archived. I generally don't like removing conversations or statements - people may want to refer to the original post later.

Background story:

Around the time i posted the second chapter of “In which Spike” the third one was already written and the fourth far enough in the drafting stage that i had a fairly solid idea of what it would look like. Unfortunately what i saw in the fourth chapter was not up to my standards. There were several writing decisions i was not really convinced of, and not having seen all episodes of 'My little Pony: Friendship is Magic' i found myself lacking background information. It was at this time that i decided to look for editorial help to ensure i would deliver work of sufficient quality: i see no reason to waste readers' time with anything sub-par. All of you got better things to do than read trash.
Unfortunately this endeavour went remarkably poorly. After no response to forum posts i started writing to potential editors directly to request their assistance. The first two just never responded at all – despite being online every day, seemingly they could not be bothered to send a single line of reply: „Busy/Not interested. Look for someone else. Good Luck.“ or inform the administrators of the group in which they were listed as editors that they would not be available for a while. Two weeks passed as i waited for any answer at all.
The third potential editor replied within the same day, telling me that not only was he too busy to take on another editing project, the subject matter of the story did not interest him enough that he would care to invest work into it even if he had any time to spare. A perfectly reasonable reaction, and one of the best i got: it allowed me to move on quickly and look for someone else.
The next person eventually sent me something vaguely akin to an edit, but after fairly scathing criticism refused to back up any of it with rational arguments – i had to ask three times to get anything like that, and then what was written was in clear contradiction both to scenes from the series and facts established earlier in the story. Not even a single full chapter got edited within more than five weeks (i decided to just not inform that person that i was looking for another editor, since i wanted to see if they'd at least finish a single chapter or send something else … not entirely surprisingly nothing came).
With still no replies to even more forum posts i looked into offering another person an exchange: i would help them with a project of theirs if they would help me with my story (the situation actually got significantly more complicated, but that's too lengthy to elaborate on here). An agreement was reached, but unfortunately it turned out that this person was too busy to actually provide assistance. After another three weeks of waiting and sitting on my hands hoping that anything would get done had passed, we reached the conclusion that this would not work out in the forseeable future.
This person then asked another person to stand in for them, but when – after that person telling me i'd get an edited chapter within two to four days – i didn't get any input or an explanation for the delay for a week, i decided a different approach was in order.

Situation now and what I am looking for:

As you can probably understand i have pretty much reached the end of my willingness to be snubbed by potential editors, or sit on my hands forever waiting whether maybe someone will eventually actually stick to their word and deliver any usable results. Thus i am turning to those who are most interested in getting this story edited so it can be published: the readers of „In which Spike ...“.
If you like the story, can spare a bit of time, know the MlP:FiM-verse reasonably well and are willing to engage in rational discussions, consider helping out by editing this story. Perks will include actually getting more of the story on a reasonable time-scale and even being able to influence the path of the story to some degree if you manage to find good arguments for it („I'd like it better that way.“ is not a good argument, while „If you change it that way you can avoid contradicting the original series / facts you established earlier in the story“ is). Of course you will also be credited as editor.
Having a master's degree in English is not required – i can find most of my grammar and orthographic mistakes myself – but i'll need you to have a sufficient grasp of the language that we can converse without me having to regularly ask what you mean. As you can tell, i am invested into getting this right, so you can expect me to initiate lengthy discussions on your statements: amongst other things, i want to understand in detail where and how i make mistakes so that i will not repeat them.
Most importantly, for the next chapters i will have to require you to be able to send me an edited / commented chapter or response to my questions back within seven days. I am just blatantly no longer willing to sit on my backside for a month or longer to see if maybe anything gets done. Once we have a good working relationship this time requirement may become negotiable if you end up in a situation where you are too busy to work through a chapter within a week.
Additionally i would like to advise that should several editors come forth, i intend to at least initially accept the assistance of all in parallel. For a variety of reasons i do think it better to work with only a single editor, but after six out of six potential editors turned out flops i have to consider the likely possibility that even if someone replies, they might initially claim to be willing to work but then once again not deliver anything except excuses.

I am sorry if this post came over as harsh or too blunt. Normally i take great pains to ensure i don't step on other people's toes, but i think the situation calls for straightup honesty rather than trying to sugarcoat anything, leading to potentially even more misunderstandings.
I hope this gives a solid insight into what i am looking for in a potential editor. If you are interested in investing some of your own time to see more of “In which Spike ...” or have any questions please send me a private message via my profile. I request that you do not post “I'll help out as an editor” as a response to this in a comment - i will not be replying to such comments, and you can assume that whoever posts such a comment didn't read the entire post and actually is not helping out at all.
If you want more “In which Spike ...” it's up to You, personally. Waiting and hoping someone else will do the work for you tends to end in failure.
