A pony of two kinds

The kirin... a rare type of oriental pony, who wield powerful magic in their curved horns. Normally a peaceful and harmonious race, they are known for their friendship and honesty. But if angered or upset, their negative emotions can turn them into fearsome, fiery beasts known as nirik. The two sides of these creatures are equally creative.... and destructive.

These ponies still live in their villages, within the territory of the city of Hoofkaido. the ponies of Hoofkaido themselves are mixed-blood with the kirin, although they appear to look more like normal ponies. But it is said the magic of their Kirin ancestors still runs in their veins. Hmmmmm, I wonder if we got Surprise mad, if she'd turn into a nirik....
