A JD Review - Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) · 6:21pm Jun 14th, 2018

Well... it's better than The Last Jedi.

Gotta say, like most people, I wasn't too thrilled about Han Solo getting his own movie, and with an actor that looks and sounds nothing like Harrison Ford. If anything, I would have pushed for Anthony Ingruber to get the part. I mean, he looks just like a young Harrison Ford, his Solo impression is spot on, and he actually played a younger Harrison Ford in Age of Adaline!

Oh, well. Another argument for another day. This is Solo: A Star Wars Story. :ajbemused:

NON-SPOILER REVIEW

To say I was somewhat pleased with this movie is actually surprising. I expected nothing from it, but walked out kinda satisfied. The directing is nice, the acting is fine, the story was alright, and the surprise cameo they had was pretty much the only time I got legitimately excited. Other than that... eh...

Sorry there's not much too this, there's just not much to talk about. I give Solo a 7/10. Pretty good movie.

Oh, I've also gotten so sour on The Last Jedi. I gave it a 6/10 last time, but now I think it deserves like a 3/10, just by how much it pissed me off after thinking more on it.

SPOILER REVIEW

So, Darth Maul just made a cameo. Really awesome moment. The whole swindling Lando out of the Falcon was a pretty fun moment as well. The female droid, forgot her name, yeah, screw her. Horrible character. Glad she died (but now she's permanently in the Falcon. Fantastic. :ajbemused:). I felt the actor who played Solo did a pretty good job. People are ripping on him too hard. He was fine. What else... what else... um... Chewie was great. Woody Harrelson taught Han to shoot first, so take that, George Lucas! (still love the Clone Wars, George. pls come back)

I'm sorry, I'm just really tired and wanted to get this blog post out of the way. If this movie didn't really try that much, than I won't try that much on the blog. The movie was pretty good, just didn't get me excited through it like Star Wars movies should.

7/10. What were your thoughts?

Honestly, Im a blind fan. A movie is either good or bad. Funny or not funny. Acting is nonexistent to me. To me, everything was done in character and the story was a good one as well.

9/10 for Solo!

I thought Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christiansen did an excellent job portraying Anakin in the prequel trilogy.

It really had no reason to exist, but at least it was entertaining to watch.
I actually liked the female droid, she was hilarious.
Paul Bettany actually manages to pull off being creepy.
Donald Glover steals the show. I think he manages to channel Billy Dee really well.

I'd say Solo was delightful...but irrelevant.

Sure it was fun-ish but it didn't really add anything of significance to the franchise, no huge changes. Just comfort food really.

But Glover and Bettany were absolutely wonderful.

7/10

Yeah but it's an underperformer in the box office, oy.

Outta curiousity: have you seen MauLer's video on The Last Jedi?

4882718 I actually liked Hayden's performance, more so in Episode 3. :moustache:

4882725 Donald Glover's first line of dialogue as Lando sounded EXACTLY like Lando. I actually smiled really wide at that moment, forgot to mention that in the review.

4882732 I'm definitely more hyped for Bumblebee. :yay:

4882746 Yeah, Paul Bettany was pretty good too.

4882828 It's another wake-up call for Disney to get their act together.

4882954 I have. Really awesome stuff. Love his reviews.

4883234 Him and Dishonored Wolf both really made me think twice about seeing TLJ and I'm glad I haven't. While I can bet it's a visually pretty movie, I can't stand the choices Disney made with it.

4883442 Dishonored Wolf's rant video on The Last Jedi was probably the best Last Jedi rant I've ever seen, next to Mauler's of course.

4883279 Much better.

Man, Ironically, Tabitha St. Germain (Rarity) was Lando Calrissian as a kid in Lego.

It pisses me off the hate the last jedi gets.
