Theme songs for my characters. · 4:35am Jun 9th, 2018
This idea just popped into my head as I was listening to music one night. Figured I would make a blog about it to pass the time.
Before I started writing From The Stars and the Underground, I tried to establish the personalities of my characters and what their goals and evolutions as people would grow into as I continued to write. My two human OC's Jack and Katy, the griffins Falca and the rest of her family.
Sometimes to help remind myself how a character would react when faced with conflict or difficult situations, I use music to kindle my imagination. A theme song to represent what the character is.
Granted, just one song can't represent the entirety of what a character is. People are complicated creatures that are always subject to change as they age. But a song can at least help an audience understand a portion of what that character displays of themselves.
For Katy Krieger, I always think of this song whenever I imagine her in a fight. There is of course Undertale's themes for Undyne, but this song always plays out first in my head.
For Jack Krieger, any song from Star Wars will suit him nicely. But when these guys from NerdOut! posted this video, I couldn't help but make connections on how I plan to develop Jack as a character with the Dark Side of the Force slowly becoming a more significant component to his new life.
For Falca, Lady of the Summer Island, Princess of House Hialla, I always think of this song when battle is upon her.
For Princess Takada, Admiral to her people's Royal Navy. I imagine a steadfast leader with an edge to pierce steel.
For Prince Thistle, this one is bit complicated. I can't help but think of two songs whenever I think of him.
There is the lover of life's pleasures
Then there is the businessman. Whenever the smile leaves his beak.
For Prince Hyde, the smallest, youngest, and loneliest of his family.
For King Grinnail, the warrior tempered by the demands of leadership and time.
That's an interesting way to develop original characters. Thanks for sharing a bit about the thoughts that brought them to life with us.
