World Building Natter for my Original Novel · 3:43pm Jun 1st, 2018
I've been distracted by my original novel lately. Nearly done with the third draft! No idea what I'm doing with it when I'm done.
My Enormous Yarazahn
Yarazahn are the apex predators of Khangi. Large, powerful, proud and fierce. A bit fancy, but fierce. Mythology, including their own, teaches that they were created by devils to punish the other races of Khangi for their sins.
Still, they must live in society. This is Sai Mar Mar. She is a lawyer. Generally yarazahn wear robes of the finest material their station in life allows, but Sai has agree to lounge around her house naked so that I can show her people’s anatomy more clearly.
In a certain type of fantasy story, yarazahn would be Always Chaotic Evil — I mean, they worship devils and eat people. But I do not favor this trope. Carnvores gotta carn. And endless war gets tiresome. In Hidemarket, the people of Khangi’s Ilkeer River region are trying to live in peace. Because yarazahn stallions are especially fierce and feared, the other races have asked that they be controlled — killed, castrated, or kept as breeding slaves. The yarazahn city-states agree to this surprisingly easily — yarazahn are cruel by nature, and their stallions are very aggressive. But naturally this arrangement creates great resentment among many in their society.
Not all, however — Sai Mar Mar is a gelding who identifies herself as a female. She finds she is much calmer since her castration, and is able to better focus on the law, her true passion.
