Writing Good Shit #1 · 8:54am May 27th, 2018
The Thicc of It
If you're reading this, hello there.
This will be the first of a semi-professional series of blogs giving an update on a particular story I'm writing. In this case, there's only one. That should be changing soon, but I'll get back to that.
Anyway, if you follow me or are thinking about reading a well-written post-FiM Human in Equestria adventure-drama, you may or may not have heard of my story and self-proclaimed magnum opus, Something Stupid. For those of you who weren't there when Act 1 of this admittedly ambitious project was wrapped up, I said I'd be publishing chapters in batches, or Acts, or Arcs, as some people prefer to call them.
Well, Chapter 12 has been completed. I went through several titles while writing it, and for the life of me, I can't remember a single one, but I decided to go for A Strong Word. Which, avid readers may remember, is referencing Chapter 2 and Adam's bad experiences with his old Vice Principal, so that may give you an inkling as to what this chapter contains. I will say that feelings, fears and a more detailed past are exchanged.
The biggest problem I had with this chapter was, really, a lack of confidence. I trust my editor well enough to call me out when I'm wrong or overthinking something - and he has, many times. In this case, I was worried I'd been dragging on a character's role for too long, but upon reflection, just like he'd said, it was all fine. I'm still sure I could have thought up of a less abrupt ending, but it'll have to do for now.
(Back To) The Future
I'll be taking a break from writing Something Stupid. It won't be long - two weeks or so - just long enough so I can gather my thoughts on what exactly happens in the next few chapters, because they will be tightly linked, and I would be remiss if I didn't keep the details in order. In the meantime, I'll be diving into the wide and wonderful realm of one-shot comedies, inspired by a conversation PeerImagination and I had, featuring Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Spitfire, and a certain big city fad.
Let's just say it'll give a new definition to the term 'lit'.

Glad to hear about how Something Stupid is doing,
and how you plan to schedule it, plus the fact that you're giving some extra thought to the future chapters is something I think is great.
Also, I can see one-shots being very fun, hope to see some good stuff out of that.
