TSoP Writing Started, and other news. · 3:53am May 23rd, 2018

So the main news item for this blog is TSoP. Work has started and is progressing slowly as I do my internet research to make Richard a more well-rounded guy and generally plan everything out. The story itself will be nearly identical to the original in terms of story and only minor plot changes but be far more interesting to look at structurally. I've also taken the liberty of removing Ever Ring entirely and replacing her with my own OC. The comment has long since been lost, I think, but DEL didn't like the way I wrote Ever Ring and I've always felt a little guilty for using her in the first place. Chapter two also spends an interminable length of time focused on Richard alone in his apartment when he should be interacting with others. Bottom line: Mistakes were made and I intend on fixing them to the best of my ability.

TSoP chapter one is on the docket currently. Foolers Rush In Chapter 10 will come after that and you certainly won't want to miss that (hint! hint! Please, for the love of Zeus, read it!).

In other news, I broke down and downloaded Grammarly. Why haven't I done it already, you ask? Well, to be honest, I didn't think I was that bad so I just made excuses not to. I mean, sure, I screw up a little here and there but I'm not that bad, right? Right!?

I found at least fifty instances of ending character quotes with periods instead of commas. Dear god, was it bad. I felt like the biggest loser in history going back to A Gentleman's Price and finding as many simple grammatical screwups as I did. Sure, about half or more of the recommended changes are crap, but the other half was a sizable chunk of missing commas, misused semicolons, incorrect words, duplicated words, incorrect punctuation, commas that were added that shouldn't have been because I didn't know wtf to do, straight-up misspellings, and a litany of other offenses. It even unintentionally highlighted some other errors in my old work like repetitive said tags. I never realized how often I was having the ponies facehoof because I couldn't be arsed to simply write something else there instead.

Using my handy new tool I've edited A Gentleman's Price, Fertile Ground, and the short but sweet Lily Valley Goes Shopping. AGP is by no means flawless, but it's now readable. I'll have to go back at some point and adjust it some more. Roseluck comes off as a bit of Mary Sue, to be honest as she effortlessly takes on the role of ultimate playgirl, slingshot master, best dancer at the Gala, and puller of heavy loads up the sides of mountains. Some of it is cute and some of it is just cringey as hell. Maybe I'm overthinking simple fanfiction but I'd like to think that even if I'm writing just as a hobby I can still do it well for god's sake! Ugh! At least the fixes to Roseluck will be simple enough.

One last bit of news: I killed a large number of update blogs dating all the way back to 2014 to make it easier for someone to go back and get the gist of where I've been. That might sound big-headed but I've had a user say how they appreciated being able to quickly skim through my backlog for the pertinent bits. My silly rants, critiques, edgelord commentary, and key points in the history of the account are still there.

Here's to making 2018 a better year than 2015!

Glad you approve. I'll take the occasion of this comment to also announce that Movie Night has also been given a Grammarly edit pass.
