Notice these exact words that need to be read at least 100 times on the chance that it doesn't sink in the first few times, or on the off chance that I hear something stupid such as "Alicorn is a brony-originated term".

You know, it may surprise me yet that bronies thought of the term "alicorn" knowing that it existed as a word already, but know this:

It is hard to imagine that a fandom could invent a term like that. So it seems like the real reason the term started to be used in "Magical Mystery Cure" might not be because bronies said it first. Because the staffers knew about the French originated word. May the bronies' mothers be hamsters and may their fathers smell like elderberries.
I believe writers had to do their homework and base their names on something, and that's unsurprising; the relevance (the thing I think you are arguing?) is what I find debatable.
First of all, Innovation is not worthless. Most words we use are in a form derived from older ones. I do agree, though, that being in a stance of exceptionalism is not a reasonable position.

Why choose alicorn over pegacorn (the less ambiguous term, based on the limited, sincerely wikipedia, information whe have)?
The truth might be never be known, but I think MLP has made the term 'alicorn' nearer to the idea of the beast rather than the horn.
However, in the 'meta' sense, the fandom you might have wanted to correct has passed away or is 3/8 dead, half-replaced--I'd like to believe-- by more indifferent spectators, a few not-so-honest visible trolls, and far fewer that have gone the deep end. Do have in mind certain spaces have a tendency to bias the population samples.

I checked translations on Google. From English to French, wing translates to "aile" and from French to English, "corne" translates to horn. Alicorn is definitely named for French terms. Therefore, perhaps Hasbro decided to use the species name because it's one of those things that can never be copyrighted.
Now, do I have to taunt you a second time?
