Today is Pinkie Pie's birthday, a date first confirmed by The Hub all the way back in 2012 (as a result of "A Friend in Deed" and when it aired).

So far, Pinkie's being doing fairly well this season. There aren't any big problems to bring up, though "The Maud Couple" did debatedly push her flaws a bit too much. However, I'm worried about the upcoming episode "Yakity Sax", because of what it involves. I can see it going one of two ways, either Pinkie's playing is really bad and she can't take any criticism at all, or her friends are overly harsh on her for no real reason other than them not liking her playing and don't bother to tell her how she can improve. I also don't like the idea of trying to raise the stakes with "Oh no, Pinkie might leave Ponyville!". Maybe in Season 1 or Season 2 you could get away with that, but with all the developments Pinkie's had in her life (the Cake Twins being born and becoming their foalsitter, getting called by the Cutie Map, Maud moving to Ponyville adjacent, becoming a teacher at Twilight's School of Friendship), for her to just up and leave Ponyville because her friends don't like her music, sounds incredibly childish, petty, and irresponsible of her.

Still, we're here to talk about the positives. So happy birthday, Pinkie Pie. And here's to hoping you'll continue to do well throughout Season 8 (and who knows, maybe "Yakity Sax" will turn out better than I'm expecting, it could always be another case of "To Change a Changeling" or "Rock Solid Friendship" where the synposis is misleading).
