[Spoilers] My thoughts on the first two episodes · 1:35am Mar 27th, 2018
This blog has spoilers for both the movie and the season premiere of season 8. You have been warned.
First off let me make it clear that I enjoyed the episodes and I liked the concept they have going.
However there were a few things that bothered me.
1) What about these other races?
I know tge concept is that their trying to share friendship with races outside of Equestria, however there are other races that are within Equestria that went completely ignored. Allow me to list them.
- Diamond Dogs
- The Buffalo
Both of these races were seen for like one episode and aside from maybe a background appearance (I'm assuming I missed some in the background) no Diamond Dogs or Buffalo have been seen outside of their first episode.
Not only that but what about Zebras. Surely they need friendship too.
2) Then there is the topic of friendship.
Why does Twilight assume that friendship doesn't exist outside of Equestria? This episode takes place after the movie, does this mean the bird pirates weren't friends? Also Scorpan (Tirek's brother) became friends with Starswirl. Did he not teach friendship (assuming it was necessary) to the creatures of his home country?
Do zebras lack friendship? Do seaponies (hippogriffs whatever) lack friendship?
Aside from these points and the fact that I found the two songs to be annoying for some reason (not sure why) I enjoyed these episodes.
I hear that. Or..is Zecora the only zebra out there... DUH DUH DUH!!!!!
4826832 Yeah, I just wish they would discuss and explore more of these characters they have already established. Why couldn't there be a diamond dog student, perhaps a nephew of one of the dogs that abducted Rarity.
Just saw it, and I imagine that Chancellor Naysay will get fired for ALMOST CAUSING PONY WORLD WAR 1! Seriously, his bias is what caused the whole plot of part two to happen!
4827228 True, but it isn't really a surprise. Ponies in the show have been shown to be xenophobic and ultimately that is one of the struggles the characters (both main and background) have to conquer through out the series.
I am just surprised we didn't see any of the other races in the school, only the ones that are "potential threats."
I think that when Twilight says other races know "nothing" about friendship she is doing so hyperbolically. I'm sure she's aware that other races have friendship, but the school can help strengthen the elements that need to be emphasized.
