Okay, on the new episodes... · 5:02pm Mar 26th, 2018
Okay, here I'm just going to take a stab at the new season premiere and share some theories and thoughts I have. Just short little ramblings.
The new students of the School. I wonder, are they being set up to be the new Mane Six and CMCs? I mean, before you rant and rave at me, hear me out.
Think about it, the Mane Six have mostly achieved their life goals and completed their character arcs. Twilight, she's essentially become what Celestia was to her, in teaching Starlight and Sunset. (And possibly Tempest/Fizzlepop if you want to really reach)
Rainbow, she's completed her lifelong dream of joining the Wonderbolts no matter what you think of them.
Fluttershy, become much bolder and has an animal sanctuary.
Rarity, she's become a premiere fashionista with several stores all across Equestria.
Pinkie... Well, I think she already achieved her life goal a long time ago in making everyone smile.
Applejack... Well, this one's a toughie as I'm not really sure if she ever had a life goal beyond being a hard worker and staying loyal to her family.
The CMC... They've gotten their marks and are now helping other ponies understand theirs.
Starlight, she's completed her reformation and all of that and is a shining citizen of Equestria, even a hero.
So, the new students, they're possibly being phased in to replace the old cast who's achieved the tip of their character arcs. Give us someone new to root for and love till Gen 5 comes along.
Now, onto a less pleasant matter. Neighsay AKA Dolores Umbridge in pony form. He's an antagonist who's very unique. Not looking for revenge and plunging Equestria into eternal darkness or shadows like Nightmare Moon or the Pony of Shadows. Not looking to make everyone equal, like Starlight. Not a bully like Sunset. Not looking for popularity and total control like the Dazzlings. You see what I'm getting at here?
He's just a racist bureaucrat with the robes of Q. Shoves Discord out of the way even if I know that's probably going to come back to bite me later That's all there is to it. Now admittedly, some of his concerns aren't unfounded. Dragons, before Ember came along, wanted to burn everyone to a crisp. Changelings, before Thorax took power wanted to cocoon everyone and suck their love dry.
Worse part is, he'll be back. And his power level... Hoo boy. Lightning Chains and the like? Not even Twilight's displayed that level of power. Or maybe she can use it, but she simply doesn't want to. Why? Three words. World of Cardboard.
Think about it, Twilight COULD have that level of power, and not show it for the exact same reasons Superman rarely does.
I swear, we're gonna see him again. Either in the Season 8 Finale or some point earlier than that.
I’m all for seeing him back. Also, he’s voiced by the Brain. That’s a plus for me. I can see him as a recurring character who’s meddling in the background.

From what I have heard from ramblings on this site is that he will be back. Hopefully he brings an underling voiced by Ron Pearlman, the voice of Pinkie and many others!
I don't think the new cast is here to replace the main cast. They're here as the new focus for it as they're new goal in teaching them their knowledge and experience.
As for your Twilight comparison to Superman view, I do agree to some degree, though I think it's not all of it.
Twilight is still inexperience. Sure she has vast knowledge and as an Alicorn as superior magic, but she's still young and somewhat unrefined with her talents, not to mention her OCDs. In comparison Neighsay already as a good chunk of life experience he use it to master his talents and improve them. Yes, he doesn't have Twilight's potential, but this is more a quality against quantity argument at this point, but one that Twilight will overcome with said time.
I've always seen S5 Starlight as Dolores, since like her, she puts on a cheery facade, and for the fact that Kelly Sheridan was actually given Dolores Umbridge as a reference point for her audition.
I think you're right in that Twi is capable of that kind of power, but doesn't use it unless absolutely necessary. At least she was able to disable his chain.

Yes, that's true, but Neighsay matches Dolores in pure bigotry for other species and is a lover of rules and the fact that he has an organization backing him even further cements the fact.

Personally, me and Ruinqueen are hoping to have Avery Brooks on the show, just to see him interact with Q... Er, sorry Discord. Star Trek nerds will know why.
I'd settle for Sir Patrick Stewart though.
