We dont even know what happened to the guy afterwards. Did Equestria find out about him and imprison/kill/blame him for the murders or did the hive he belonged to kill him for treason? Did he get a happy ending?

It lacks any closure. Just ends on a sad cliffhanger. Then again not everyone cares for closure i guess so eh.

I want to sympathize with this guy, but then you realized that he stole the joy of being with this family by murdering the stallion he's was pretending to be. Makes you wonder which is the more tragic bit.
