New year bloggl · 8:37pm Jan 1st, 2018
well, 2017 was... something. It's hard to believe that it's been just over a year since I've put up my first story on fimfiction. I wouldnt say I was very successful, far from it, but I did something, and even made new friends, like the author of The Iron Horse, my favorite fanfiction (except Fallout: Equestria) TheHatman. And the guy who illustrated his work, Greenfinger.
Wait, I'm certain there was a point to this- OH, YEAH.
Void Trials!
So, it's been... like half a goddamn year since I've put up the final chapter of Void Trials 1 and promised 2 sequels. Thats... not whats gonna happen and I will explain it right now. There are two things that soon began to bug me about the plan. Number 1: I felt less and less like I wanted to do 2 more multi-chapter stories with Shetland. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't enjoy writing these, but I have many, many other stories in my head, all of which I have to pass up because I took up a big project like this.
And yes, for me, Void Trials is a pretty large project, scoff all you want, show up and tell me how long your story is compared to mine-
Reason 2: the third part of Void Trials would have been a complete and utter edgefest with few lighter moments strewn inbetween. In essence, Shetland would have gone to a murderous wasteland a la Fallout, where she'd try to hunt down a specific guy and not care at all who gets in the crossfire. Without context, that sounds really shitty. With context I didn't think it would be, but I don't think I can pull it off.
Now, whats coming instead?
I managed to rearrange the plotpoints into 1 sequel, that incorporates everything I set up in Void Trials 1, makes a good story by itself and that I bet you wouldnt even notice was cobbled together from the pieces of a different idea if I hadn't just told you. Alltogether, it will be somewhat less dark, deal with the consequences of the events in Void Trials 1 while incorporating more of what worked in that story instead of focusing on what didn't really work out too well. It took a while to rearrange and connect the dots however and I only have 2 chapters saved up in Google doc and a few blank spots left in the plans. However, the wait will not be much longer, and I promise, cross my heart and hope to fly, that the first chapter will go up this month, probably not within the next week though.
Hey, thanks for the kind words. And it's been nice hanging out with you too.
Anyway, good luck with Void Trials. It sounds like you've got a good grasp on how to proceed from here. I look forward to seeing how it turns out!
