I need to stop promising things · 8:35pm Nov 13th, 2017
It's a funny thing, inspiration. One moment you think you're going to be working on something and leaving another thing in the dirt for a while, the next you suddenly get a rush of inspiration. I am, as some may have guessed, talking about 'Ode to a Monster'. My original intent was for Ode to a Monster to be low priority, with Viva La Vida and A World Apart taking priority in that order.
However, Ode to a Monster has had a huge rush of inspiration, leaving A World Apart as the low priority currently. That's not to say A World Apart has been abandoned, far from it. With the release of Darksiders 3 some time next year, it's likely I will get back into A World Apart at that time.
As for Viva La Vida, I'm in two minds. On the one hand, I think the idea of the chapters following the song lyrics is pretty cool. Not something I've seen done before. On the other hand, now that I've gotten back into it I'm beginning to see why no one's done it. Non-chronological is difficult enough to write if you're constraining yourself to a set timeline (instead of, for instance, brief Slices of Life taken more or less at random). Constraining each Chapter to the theme given by a song lyric is also quite difficult, and you end up with awkward pacing (as much as a non-linear story can be paced), and wildly different chapter lengths depending on how much you can actually fit to the theme of the lyric.
Do I think the way the story is structured can work? Yes, I think it is something that can be done, however I don't have the necessary skill and experience to pull it off. I think it's an interesting, unexplored way of writing a story, but I do see why it hasn't been explored.
The plot to Viva La Vida will not be abandoned. What I have planned is fairly large in its scope, and too much time and effort has gone into those plans to simply discard it. What is likely to happen is the story will be reworked and reuploaded under a different name, this time following a chronological order, still using the themes provided by the song but presented in a different way.
In any event, Ode to a Monster is now the priority story. I have inspiration, and working on a story with a somewhat smaller scope will certainly give me practice and break the rust off.
Nothing has changed with regards to of Vampires and Werewolves.
