A JD Review: Thor: Ragnarok (2017) · 11:01pm Nov 11th, 2017

Once more, another home run for Marvel.

I've been meaning to see this ever since it came out, and boy did Marvel deliver with Thor: Ragnarok! This film was filled with so much great comedy, action, story, character, and a fantastic ending to the Thor trilogy! Like the MLP movie review, I'll be doing a non-spoiler review at first, then jump into the sweet, sweet spoilers and what awaits for the MCU...

Let's get into it!

NON-SPOILER REVIEW

In this adventure, we see Thor, Loki, and Hulk on a journey to save Asgard from Ragnarok, the end of everything in Asgard. But first, Thor must survive on a junk planet run by a gladiatorial Grandmaster. You know what? I loved this movie! The colors were pleasing, the comedy was great as always, the character development was fantastic, and the story was amazing! Not many complaints here!

Lots of laughs, lots of action, and just a lot of fun! Definitely go check it out! 8/10!

SPOILER REVIEW

That non-spoiler section didn't last very long, did it?

Anyway, Thor: Ragnarok pits Thor and his brother Loki against their sister, Hela the Goddess of Death, Odin's first born child. They couldn't defeat her, as she was able to crush Thor's hammer with ease, and both are transported to the junk planet (forgot the name of it). On this planet, Thor must win his freedom by defeating the Grandmaster's champion in the gladiatorial arena, which so happens to be Hulk. And so we have our conflict.

The story was really good. No real complaints. If anything, my only complaint for the film would be that the comedy tended to be a bit waning at times, but most of the time it really works. The characters were fantastic. Thor, great as ever. Banner, even better than I imagined. Loki, great as he can be. Even the new characters like Korg and Valkyrie really stuck out, and I ended up enjoying both of them on-screen. Hela, the main villain, was also pretty good.

I really thought Thor: Ragnarok was going to introduce the final Infinity Stone, the Soul Stone. But nope! Looks like we'll have to wait for Black Panther or Infinity War for that. Speaking of which, the after-credit scene most certainly teases Infinity War. :pinkiecrazy:

The destruction of Asgard by Surtur was also a bit of a shock. Since Thor and his team couldn't defeat Hela, they thought that Surtur and the destruction of Asgard would be the way to do it. And it makes sense, as Odin's words to Thor hold some weight: Asgard isn't a place, it's a people. The civilians of Asgard survived, and are under the leadership and protection of their new king, Thor. For now...

Great film. Definitely go check it out, and if you have, what was your favorite part?

8/10

MILD SPOILERS:

The first battle with Thor and Surter (And the last battle with Mjlonir) was honestly some of the best action in the movie. Just hearing Led Zeppelin again sealed the deal for me.

I think while the criticism of the comedy interjecting with the serious moments is certainly founded. The film itself is a comedy made by a director who is known for intertwining serious moments with comedy, Taika Watiti's previous movies Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Boy did this in spades. The comedy itself is mae to both give levity to the audience, it also serves to break the necessary facts that Asgard is gone for good. Korg cutting in with a joke was made to cement the fact that Comic Book Logic isn't going to bring Asgard back.

That, and Taika considers Thor Ragnorak to be a comedy. It is certainly a different movie than what Marvel announced back in 2015.

I don't really care for MCU Dr. Strange (By that I mean I don't care for Benedict Cumberbatch), but Loki getting humiliated made his entire three minutes in this movie worth it.
Also, now we can do what the comics did and move Asgard to Oklahoma!

Oh can we please get a story from you about this that movie was awesome, my own only complaint is that it never explained how Loki banished Odin from Asgard(The city not the people) or how Odin lost his Odin Force

I had the exactly same thoughts about the last infinity stone. But not yet it seems
I have to say my two favorite parts, since I can't just do one, would have be when Stange release Loki from falling and the fact that he apparently was falling for thirty min. and the other was when Banner jumps from the ship onto the rainbow bridge in front of Fenir. Funny as HELL!

4723315 Strange, considering Thor: Ragnarok is meant to be like the cosmic apocalypse in the MCU. Oh, well. The movie is still great.

4723495 Next story will be Infinity War, but it'll tie into Thor: Ragnarok.

4723587 I was cracking up at those scenes in particular! :rainbowlaugh:

The part when Thor knocks himself with a bouncing ball.

4723955 That, and all of Hulk's lines, were great.

4723969
And Loki’s face when he sees Hulk entering the arena.
