Year's Almost Up. How Are Those Resolutions? · 9:46am Nov 1st, 2017
First off: yes, working on that magic blog I promised, and on the Orphanhooves Social. After I post one, I'll update you on the issues with the other.
Anyway, how are those resolutions working out? Not that great, turns out.
The mental and physical programmes I wanted to do were a bust. I am losing a little bit of weight now, minding what I eat, but the time and consistency to exercise isn't there.
Making a finished deer for 2D animation: sort of done. It's still an ugly one, and untested.
Making a Synfig tutorial: Nope.
Finish at least one show per month: the site I was getting my cartoons from was pulled, so no again.
Read at least one work off the Gutenberg Project per month: kinda kept it up? I've certainly read more than usual, but not every month, and catching up has been a struggle.
Watch at least one full tutorial per month. That one was nice and easy, and definitely hitting that.
Cut down my Read Later list by half. I've added four more stories in the meantime, read zero all year. Maybe if I do a massive binge-read, I can do it?
Finally, the novel-related ones:
Outline at least six episodes of the City of Tomes series. Done. Just barebones outlines. I'm planning to do the four prequel stories this NaNoWriMo, if I can at all.
Make 3D models of Corona, Riley, Rowan, Tobias, Laurel, and Aurora. Maybe, just maybe, I can do a few of those in the next two months. But it's doubtful, considering my track record. I have, though, finally at long last, settled on two things. I want my characters to be anime-esque (because Disney has the realistic horses, MLP has the cartoony ones, and Filly Funtasia has their Muppet horses) and I want them to be 3D anime. Been pondering that for a while now, but I simply cannot learn how to draw properly in the timeframe I want to to get my characters visually done.
So that's that. The year hasn't been all that productive, but as always it has been educational. I learned I can't really make plans, partly due to my own weaknesses but also partly because of outside influences. I don't have enough control over my schedule to make plans, simple as that.
Anyway, what to expect in the future? I'll be working on the reindeer short stories this month, along with the Orphanhooves fic. I'll post some teaser chapters of both once I have a quality product, so you can look forward to that. I'm hoping to at least finish and publish Orphanhooves before year's end, at the very latest. Depending on how well or how poorly the reindeer models turn out, I'll post some screenshots of those, too. Assuming anyone's interested, that is.
As for everything else... the job searching remains my major problem. I'm currently signed up on Codecademy, learning Python programming. Once I'm done with that course, I intend to try my hand at the game-making in Python, do the exercises in the e-book, and work on my c.v. after that.
Oh, and one final note: I've set aside some emergency money, enough to buy new hardware if this laptop does give the ghost. I've been looking into pc builds on logical increments and the like, but if any of you wish to share tips or stories, be it from buying pre-builts or building your own, feel free to share. I don't think I'll need to get new hardware anytime soon, but better to be safe than sorry, right?
I'll try to get that last blog doodled out and posted soon-ish, probably around the weekend again. It'll probably be shorter, focusing on how wizards naturally respond to ideas of Fate and what the nature of wisdom really is (how to consistently write a wise character that's not old and grey, for example).
Take care, Cracker out.
