Equestria Girls Flipped! (Side: Canterlot High part 2)

Alright, so picking up where we left off E!Spike approaches the Canterlot High version of Ditzy Doo to try and get her help. Yeah, he's got plans for how to loosen Sunset's hold over the school and make it clear that he's not just gonna fall in line for her, but there's still a ton about this world he doesn't know about (not the least of which being how to use the technology). Luckily for him,

    Looking for some advice/inspiration.

I'm trying to start a fanfic where the main character has amnesia and I want to avoid the cliche "wakes up going 'where am I who am I?'" approach.

    Thoughts?

Equestria Girls Flipped! (Side: Canterlot High)

So you're all probably wondering what E!Spike is up to while CH!Spike is having fun in Equestria.

Well it starts with him getting to know the local police and their station pretty well.

    Equestria Girls Flipped! (Side: Equestria)

After quite a few failed attempts to start this and a bit of thought I realized it will likely be a lot easier to write (and read) this summary if I divided up the two story lines (Equestria and Canterlot High) and then brought things back together when they actually intersect.

    Therefore, welcome to:

Thoughts from the Multiverse: My Take (Dragonverse) · 10:00pm Oct 19th, 2017

One-thousand years ago, Ponykind was the greatest threat the world had ever known.

Masters of both magic and nature, controlling the land and the very weather with their bare hooves, the seemingly harmless ponies of Equestria were the most dangerous force any creature had ever seen. Lead by their dual rulers Daybreaker and Nightmare Moon they had spread across the land, subjugating every other species and land they reached and adding it to their ever-growing empire...

Until, that is, one young dragon took a stand against them. Armed with nothing but a magic scepter, he united the dragons under his banner to fight back against their conquerors. To make Equestria safe for all creatures, not just ponies. And when the time came for the final conflict he used the scepter's power to seal away both of the wicked alicorns and left their armies leaderless and scattered...

Ember knows that story all too well. Her father, Dragonlord Torch, has told it to her almost every night since she was a hatchling. Not that liking the old story gets him any sort of pass for still her treating her like a baby dragon.

Still, what should just be a story is starting to make her worry. Strange dreams have been haunting her sleep lately. Images of fire-scarred forests and mountains frozen under eternal moonlight, all with countless dragons and other creatures shackled by the mad alicorn sisters.

No matter how much her father insists that they're just dreams Ember knows that they aren't. Especially since they've been getting worse and worse as the end of his reign approaches. Something is going to happen when the time comes to pick a new dragonlord, something bad. And Ember knows she's going to have to do something about it.

Whether her father will allow it or not.

Soooo, I thought this might be fun. It incorporates stuff that we now know about Dragons in FiM and at the same time gives a reason for the world to be spun to a more dragon-centric (or at least a much less pony-centric) society.

Thinking over the pitch for this I figured the idea of turning the Mane Six into dragons and making them the stars of the show would be a touch overdone and expected. If anything this lets them be potential antagonists in this verse. Especially Twilight Sparkle (care to guess just how the Alicorn Sisters would be escaping? :twilightoops:)

The major drawback to this verse is, aside from Ember, Garble, Spike, and Torch, there's not a lot of dragons in the series with canon names and personalities. If this story were to incorporate a team of dragons it's a question of how many should be involved and whether or not to include original dragon characters/fanon interpretations of canon dragons. Still, I thought it an interest take on a concept that seems to be in desperate need of some originality. What do you all think?

Ooh, that's brilliant! I never even thought of dragons! You're right that we don't have many dragons or even appropriate dragons to use, though. There would have to be a number of OCs

Would it involve a standard element lay out in some way? Certainly most of them (particularly generosity) would seem to go against dragon nature although maybe they could be needed to pull dragon society back together if it's coming apart after they originally united to defeat the ponies.

Now a part of me isn't sure if that's necessary but the idea of, say, the Bloodstone Scepter being shattered by the Alicorns' escape and Ember and crew needing to find the pieces...

Well, I have tossed around a few ideas for each shard representing different virtues that the dragons would value and there wouldn't even necessarily need to be six! Possible "Elements of Dragonhood (placeholder name)" I've thought about include:

Wisdom (Cuz dumb dragons don't live very long, you live for centuries for a reason take advantage of it and learn something)

Bravery (When the only thing you have to fear is your own species fortune tends to favor the bold!)

Justice (At the same time you need some sort of morality to guide your actions or you're little better than a storybook monster)

Temperance (Knowing when to hold back is another thing that helps dragons live a long time)

Memory (The lessons of the past help pave the way for a better future. Somebody needs to keep them in mind.)

Last time you made mention of the Dragonverse, it got me thinking about how it could be done, exploit the full story potential of the dragons and their culture/way of life, and still have some strong connection to established canon, and ultimately got the idea of Nightmare Moon was banished as already well established and known in show canon, but somewhere during the intervening 1,000 years that followed, the dragons came along, waged war with Equestria, and eventually won, conquering Equestria and moving in to enjoy the splendors that come with it, displacing the defeated ponies who end up mostly leaving Equestria (say they take up residence in the Dragon Realms the dragons are now vacating and have to basically start over and make the best of their now less-than-ideal environment). So when it starts to come time for Nightmare Moon's return, the dragons are large and in charge of Equestria, and the ponies are the defeated but bitter outcasts that aren't happy with the dragons over defeating them years ago, Torch is ruling, Ember is next in line or whatever, Spike is living with dragons trying to find his place in life, etc, presenting a chance to explore what Equestria would look like is the dragons were ruling it, and what the relocated ponies might be doing and living like in their new territories. It is in that environment that Twilight (maybe NOT Celestia's student as Celestia's no longer a ruler, and instead just an average pony citizen), or perhaps some other pony entirely, catches on to Nightmare Moon's imminent return and wants to go searching for the lost Elements of Harmony needed to defeat Nightmare Moon again, but as the dragons now control Equestria, she has to go through them to get permission to search for powerful pony artifacts that could possibly be used for more than just beating Nightmare Moon, and then as the situation plays out, Spike, Ember, etc, all get caught in the middle of the matter and have to work together to say the day, and so on.

That way, you could still have members of the Mane 6 around to fill in gaps in the cast if so desired, seeing there aren't so many canon-established dragons available for usage in such an idea, and then have fun playing with the dynamic there. Heck, with the universe turned on the head as it is, you possibly could even swap out members of the Mane 6 with other ponies so to further shake things up (say replace Twilight with Starlight for instance).

Anyway, just throwing that out there, as I don't have any intentions on enacting upon the idea myself presently, and saw some parallel between it and your own pitch, so I figured maybe something in it would be of use to you.

If not, then maybe someone else reading this will get inspiration from this and will run with the idea.

Wow that's all pretty well thought out. Granted this is a bit more of a meshing of pony and dragonverses but still an interesting way to approach it.

4702825
Believe it or not, I had come up with pretty much all of that almost immediately after reading your last blog post on this subject, so, you know, it was one of those ideas that came together pretty quickly. And I figured, since I went to all the trouble of devising it, I might as well share it with someone... :rainbowlaugh:

Heh, kinda the point of these posts. Not sure if I'd ever actually write these stories myself but if it inspires somebody else to try something then all the better that the idea is out there instead of just trapped in my head.

Honestly, anything with dragons, especially stories with dragons on the side of good is enough to make want to read it.

I like the idea, but I've been wondering, who says the new bearers have to all be dragons? Sure, there's not a ton of established dragon characters to go around... but I'm sure the minotaurs, zebras, griffons, and other races are equally interested in stopping the pony menace. ;)

Now that is a good idea. I could imagine bringing in the likes of Gilda, Gustave, Iron Will, Steve the Sea Serpent...

Oh Twilight could be like Sombra.
