Trillions? There aren’t that many humans on the planet. Unless the sacrifices aren’t required to be sapient, in which case it may be theoretically possible but would require that over 14 million creatures died for every human that did. Which, while not impossible, doesn’t really sound that plausible unless the lethal radius of hurricanes for insects is orders of magnitude higher than that than of humans… which is probably the case, come to think of it.
