Earlier this year, I took up the task of writing again, but found myself having two problems:
- My skills had deteriorated from lack of use to the point where it was much more difficult than usual for me to produce work.
- I had to flesh out what was initially just a quick introductory chapter to a prologue.
So I exiled myself from the internet for a while, like a reclusive monk, and set about fixing this.
I read a great deal of books, practiced small bits of writing, and put together a few chapters for the story. Developing the prologue chapter took some time, as I had to create entirely new characters off the top of my head, do some worldbuilding to explain the circumstances behind the story, and then chart out how the plot should flow.
Since everyone on FiMfiction is doing it, I also put together some ideas for some original fiction so that I, too, can be a self-published author. I'm gonna put them up on Amazon's Kindle thing. I'm not really enthusiastic about their prospects, but I came up with what I felt were some fairly original ideas.
I appreciate everyone who kept an eye on my profile page in the interim period. While I was away, I missed you all terribly.
I also wrote a small poem that is as yet unfinished.
Freezing cold, ice and snow
Biting the flesh borne toward them
From ancient lands, a people
Have brought a child of hope.
Their kindred join, offering shelter.
The child wakens. Eyes of blue, ivory flesh, gilt locks.
At first small, a mere idea.
In an instant she rises, above the trees, a youthful girl, full of promise.
Her strength drives the brothers and sisters of those from afar,
Her feet stand stride many miles at a single step.
And those travelers now laugh at the old powers that troubled them, of their honelands.
The Titaness breathes her fury, a young war-goddess, eager to prove
Unyielding might, her power
And her people, the oppressed sojourners, allow her; let this prove their success!
The Titaness shatters the old power with a blow from her fist.
Blood streams from her mud-caked fingers..
Welcome back it's good to see you again.
