me checking the dislike ratio on my new story

Glad to know bigotry is still alive and well in this fandom.

It's glad to see some of us didn't watch the same series as I did.

    So where I've been

Okay, uh... how do I begin this? Well, I suppose I should start with the obvious. Yes, I've been distracted. If you follow me on Archive that should be obvious. And if you don't, you totally should btw. Yes, I'm shameless.

Okay, this is mainly for the Doctor Who fans in my followers, so if you're not one, you can just skip this blog post.

I've seen a lot of anger and vitriol towards the new Doctor being a woman lately. Saying that progressiveness is taking over the show among other things. Personally, I don't give a flying FUCK as to if the Doctor is a man or a woman. The point of the Doctor's character is a bumbling alien traveling time and space learning and helping people. That's all there is to it. And another thing, none of us have actually seen Jodie as the Doctor yet aside from one small trailer and we're al already yelling the show is ruined? Excuse me?

EXCUSE ME?

Do any of us actually have the right to comment on if the show is ruined or not since we haven't even seen one episode with the new Doctor in it? Simple answer: NO!

No, we do not. For all we know, Jodie could be a very good Doctor. She may not be, but we haven't seen her or any of the episodes relating to her tenure yet. So, we really should be with holding judgement till they actually air and then we see if she screws up or not. Hell, only about half of the Doctor's actors have gotten it right on their first try. But seriously people, this is getting out of hand. It needs to stop, or at least until we actually see if Jodie screws this up. Honestly, I don't think she will, because a few of you have forgotten she is actually a very good actor, as she's worked on shows like Broadchurch, been in films like Venus, where she was nominated for four awards and has worked on stage as well. So in my mind, Jodie is a good choice for our newest Doctor, so can we at least show a little respect towards her and not bitch about it? It's happened, and it's not going away.

...Okay, I'm done, I'll step off my soapbox now. I just really needed to get that off my chest.

If there's one word I could use to describe recent DW episodes that would be 'Anvilicious'. This is Not A Good Thing.
If they give us decent plots and funny aliens for Jodie to interact with for the new series, great!
If they make the fact the new Doctor is female a centrepoint of the writer's ambition to wipe out all perceived injustices all over the cosmos, this is not so great.
There, now I've said my piece as well.

Not a fan of the doctor, but I agree with what you said there.

For my part, I was actually rooting for Rupert Grint (even if he was in the unlikely list) because of the all still not ginger gag.

Otherwise I don't care that the Doctor is female. It in fact already happen, even if it was a little comedic side show, and this not also include fanfiction.

The problem, and I already said it before, it wasn't the right time. Doctor Who already got some backlash, not only from Moffat's bad writing of Capaldi's Doctor, but also because of the BBC's pandering of political correctness, gender ideologies and feminism.

And this is the core of the problem, people are sick and tired of it and for them this is another attempt at pandering from the BBC.

I know nothing about Jodie Whittaker, I don't think I saw a movie or series with her, so I'll be looking at the new series with a neutral eye, like always in fact, before even judging anything.

I have seen a lot of comments about how people are angry that the new doctor is a woman, compared to very few actually with any anger about it, more like "eh the show was already getting worse, hope it doesnt go any more".

Though from the interview the new doctor gave, seems that unlike all previous doctors Jodie doesnt care much about the show itself/the doctor and sees it only as a means to advance her agenda. So meh we will see what happens, all/most depends on the writers anyway.

I'm not really a fan of doctor who, I've only seen a few episodes, but I liked what I saw for the most part.

As for this ummm. . . "issue" I totally agree that people are overreacting and should reserve judgement until they actually see the new doctor in action. However I will admit that there are a few points for concern with this reveal, although they should stay just that concerns, wait until the product is out before you actually judge it. One point of concern is the progressiveness issue. Let's face it there have been a lot of times where so called "progressiveness" and political correctness have just gotten so in your face and annoying that it's offensive. The reason the new Doctor is a woman is most likely for political reasons, not because the writers wanted it. However there's always the chance that it was the writers' idea, and/or that they will be able to do a great job with it despite political correctness getting in the way.

Another issue I think is change, people are always going to complain about it. This change is a bit bigger and more shocking initially than a lot of others regarding this show (at least as far as I know) so expect more backlash.

There's also the whole idea of the Doctor switching genders. I don't know much about the doctor, maybe he's not supposed to have an official gender and could be either, it just so happened he was male 12 times in a row. But there are people (like me actually) who don't really like the idea of swapping a person's gender. I'm just not a fan of the concept for reasons such as to me it seems like too personal an issue to fool around with in my opinion.

Despite this a lot of people are getting upset for no real reason. Complete judgement should be reserved for the final product. Right now we know almost nothing about this, the idea may not be totally appealing to everyone, but give it an actual chance before you try to condemn it. Let's see what this new doctor can do, and hope it doesn't get as bad as you fear, hope there isn't an obnoxious political agenda, or just bad acting, let's hope it's good.
