200k words. · 1:42pm Jul 9th, 2017
The 200k word milestone comes, and with it comes a change. Perhaps not a large change in the grand scheme of things, but a significant one that's been simmering in the back of my mind for the last 100k words.
Also... 200k words... Standard novel length is 100k. Anything above that starts to run the risk of being called an epic, and oddly enough it is a risk. I was doing some research to see if maybe I should start writing professionaly, and apparently publishing companies have a thing against length. I don't know why. I mean, dC/dt is fanfiction -- which has a worldbase that the readers come in knowing about. I have no idea how much longer dC/dt might have been if I'd had to build everything up. I mean, I've got some idea as there's a universe I've been toying with full of non-humanoid or semi-humanoid life, but just the idea of establishing things like tactile telekinesis -- or whatever it is ponies use to hold things with their hooves -- is daunting.
Then again, dC/dt is episodic. Who knows, maybe I could do it.
Congrats on making it to the 200k, and really, its not felt like that. Its felt far less, so congrats!
