Calm Wind

We writers do not speak. We do not hear. We have no songs. We have no pictures. We only have scripture. From words we bring images. From words we bring emotion. From words we bring life.

Chapter 146 update! (And some other things) · 9:00pm Jun 23rd, 2017

Winnar!

Hey there everyone! So... for starters, chapter 146. I have only just finished the outline. How did it take me this long jsut to outline it? Why is the outline 50+ pages long? Not for the reasons you think :derpytongue2: This chapter (thankfully) is basically an all dialogue chapter, first time in a while that it hasn't been an action chapter and im honestly a-ok with that. I don't HATE writing action, but it's much more taxing and tiring, especially over several chapters. 146 is finally slowing back down and the chapter is going to be super dialogue heavy, more or less starting the transition into the final sequence of arc 3.

So here's how it always works: Action chapter = Outline is finished quickly, but writing takes a while. Dialogue chapter = outline takes forever, but writing it goes much quicker because the dialogue is more or less what i write out the most in the outline. no thinking necessary. So at this rate i'm AIMING to have the chapter done by next week.

Secondly... good lord... what the heck is with this new website update?! :raritydespair: The interface is not too bad, i'm getting used to it... but the chapter editor... my god the chapter editor is SO BAD...

So what i do when i write these , is i write them seperately on a word document, and after applying all my proofs and edits, i copy and paste the whole thing into the chapter editor. Before the update, all i had to do was mass indent (then delete the indent on the first sentence after each horizontal rule marker marked HR) Then add the horizontal rules, add the pictures, add the author's note, add the formatting where necessary, and then it was ready to go.

With the update... i have to do all of that... plus a few new very annoying thing. For one the indenting doesn't work, so my chapters are stuck having no alignment, but whats worse... it adds an extra space in between EVERY paragraph. So in order to not have my paragraphs ridiculously far apart, i have to go through and delete one column in between each one. But on top of that for some reason it at times the paragraphs get stuck with extra spaces from the left side, forcing me to manually delete them. Then the pictures... it's bad enough that they added this weird minimizing feature, but whenever i try to center them, the brackets for centering sometimes end up nowhere near what i had highlighter, and the second bracket sometimes fails to appear, causing me to end editing mode and see that suddenly a bunch of my text is centered.

in short... it literally took me an additional half hour to get chapter 145 up and ready before i put out the teaser blog last weekend. Mods... plz fix x_x

And lastly... this is not a major issue, i just noticed it with the last chapter...

Cliffhanger:

Noun:

1. An abrupt suspenseful ending used in order to interest the reader or viewer in the next installment.

That's what a cliffhanger is... and it's something i DO use often (chapter's 128,129,130, 142, 143 and 144 are recent examples.) but recently some have been calling basically every chapter ending a cliffhanger and voicing frustration along with it every time. Chapter 145 did not end in a cliffhanger, the scene was over, the conflict of the moment had passed and it was not cut off right before something shocking or drastic was about to happen. But some called it that regardless.

Three things:

1. I don't do it to be mean, it's a commonly used writing tactic, especially in episodic story telling like this

2. I don't keep you waiting for long before the next chapter

3. Just wanted to point out what 'cliffhanger' means because some are saying i'm using it even when i'm not :derpytongue2: I answered a few comments playing along like i usually do, but when i got to the 6th or 7th comment calling 145 a cliffhanger i felt the need to point this out.

Anyhow, no worries no worries, that last part was not meant to chastise anyone, just didn't want to let that go unaddressed:twistnerd: Work on the chapter is starting soon and since it's dialogue heavy it shouldn't take too long.

Not cool with the cliffhanger at the end there Calm. Now I have to wait for next blog post.
And I'm gone next week, so I won't see it when it comes out :raritydespair:

The extra spacing is a total pain in the flank, I agree...:ajbemused:

He's right, guys.

It isn't a cliffhanger once you fuckin look down the cliff, tie live grenades to your ankles, and start juggling chainsaws while going for that Olympic dive to the bottom and beyond.

Meh... At least we can use emojis (even if I still use pony emojis)

I had a meme for this but my phone hates me. So uhhh... Yeah those cliffhangers right? Heh good luck using the new editing system.

So, when will the artwork compilation gonna be released?
