It Could've Been Great: What About Discord? · 12:00am Jun 18th, 2017
Hello! This is the first of a little installment I like to call--"It could've been great". This is where I look at a less than stellar episode, and share my thoughts on how it could've been better. Our first episode to look at is What About Discord?, from Season 5. This is one of my least favorite episodes overall in the series. And one of the things I really don't like about it is how it isn't so much a Discord episode, as it is a Twilight episode. I mean, seriously? Twilight going through a whole set up by Discord just to learn that she can be jealous too? She wasn't always a princess, so she should already know that anyone can be jealous. But with that said, here's how I think the episode could've played out for the better:
Fluttershy is glad by how much Discord has changed since she first met him, and how he seems to care very much about their friendship. But then, she notices that her friends are still unsure of Discord and that they don't really offer to spend time with him. Worrying about Discord's relationship with her friends, Fluttershy gathers the Mane 6 together and asks them to hold a big picnic/outing together, and to let Discord attend as a way of bonding together. Despite their reluctance, the girls agree to it, and begin to make the preparations. Meanwhile, Discord is equally reluctant about going, until Fluttershy coaxes him into giving it a try. Thus, everyone attends the friendship gathering, and Discord, while trying to get along, causes all sorts of little mishaps with his pranks and antics. After a while, Discord feels like the girls want nothing to do with him and leaves. Fluttershy scolds her friends for being so cold/harsh to Discord, and leaves also to try and apologize to Discord for their behavior. The girls see the error of their ways and go to Discord to apologize for not really giving him a chance, and saying that they'll try their best to meet him half way. Discord accepts their apology and they all go out on another outings, this time, everyone is enjoying themselves, and Fluttershy is proud to see all her friends getting along together.
That, is what I think would've been a great episode for What about Discord? Instead of what we needed up with. What do you think? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.
