Bloomsday · 5:39am Jun 16th, 2017
Hey all. Certainly been a long while since my last post. I've been dealing with a lot of stuff, most of it unpleasant, but I came here regarding pleasant topics. Specifically that of a certain holiday that's been around for almost a century and some of you (though most won't) have heard of: Bloomsday.
Yes, a holiday that celebrates the day James Joyce got an old-fashion from his future wife. Heh, the things you learn from Wikipedia; kinda messed up, yeah? Though the more family-friendly purpose is to celebrate the novel Ulysses, whose plot revolves around one man's errands in Dublin which take place on, you guessed it, June 16. It's a real big deal over in Dublin, with people reenacting and doing marathon readings of the dang book, which is DENSE. One of the hardest things I've ever read, and much of which I barely remember. Just that there's changes in chapter layout, stream of consciousness, and that the last chapter is made up of eight sentences stretched over twenty pages. For all the insanity and thought put into making this enigmatic heap of words, I quite respect that.
Ramblings aside, for this year I decided to observe this holiday by rereading Ulysses to refresh my credibility as an enlightened intellectual reader... only it's halfway through the month and I've barely got a through a third of it. Again, it's seriously dense. So to compensate, I'll help myself to a breakfast of animal innards (ie breakfast meats) and pop open a bottle of Guinness. Maybe find someplace that serves fish and chips.
Who else has read Ulysses? And how are you going to spend your Bloomsday? For now, I'm gonna get some sleep. And then TO THE MEATS!
After a quick Wikipedia search... okay, strange holiday.

Yup
I've considered reading Joyce but I at times struggle to parse Austen's works... So I think I'll keep holding off.
