Miss Koi Reviews "Honest Apple" and "A Royal Problem" · 1:36am Jun 12th, 2017

Guess what you guys?;)

Two Episode Review for the price of one Review again!:D Yay!

Hehe, sorry about being late on "Honest Apple" because, not only because I'm busy during the week days now, but also "Honest Apple" is well...hate to say this in terms of those who might like "Honest Apple"...my least favorite episode of Season 7 so far:/ It gets 7.5 hearts out of 10 in my book<3

The main reason why I really didn't enjoy this episode is because of, unfortunately, how our girl Applejack was handled in this episode, along with the moral and the fashion world as a whole:(

Or rather, how they are all handled together and I think it's important to point that out because they all work together, and they have to work together, to make this episode work. The moral of the episode was to be careful with how honest you are with your honesty and critique, and this moral was designed for AJ to learn. And I think this is a really good lesson for AJ to learn, especially in the fashion world setting or any setting she is unfamiliar, because AJ needs to learn to separate true hard facts from just stubborn opinions and beliefs in order to learn more about this unfamiliar world she is in. In fact, this episode gave a really good set up at the beginning of the episode with Applejack and Applebloom.

(By the way, love that the episode referenced back to Apple Bloom's subtle love for fashion and creative arts like painting and colors and such again in this scene:D I hope this gets expanded on in the future with a Apple Bloom and Rarity episode, with Applejack having to deal with not having some many things in common with little Apple Bloom anymore. Hmm, this kinda reminds me of a certain fan fic I love with Fluttercord in it written by a certain AM Shark;) Hmm, I wonder why;) Lol!)

BUT, what made everything fall apart was that Applejack took the whole "practicality" element too far in the context of this high fashion/couture competition among these very skill and talented young upcoming designers, who can clearly pull off their respective high fashion designs.
Why does this make a difference? Well, remember Coco Pommel's fashion show reference at the beginning of the episode:

Well, this is considered high fashion/couture in the eyes of the fashion world versus designer. High Fashion/couture is specifically design to be art manifested into clothing. It is designed to be something beyond clothing or not real clothing at all, it is design to be purely self expression, beauty, and art. Versus designer clothing where it's very well made and well designed clothing but can translate into more practical use for the real world and for real people to wear around. In other words, High Fashion/couture is not made to be practical, every day designer clothing to be actually worn. Much like how ponies or people in real life can't wear disco ball outfits like Coco Pommel made.
For example, the goth pony represents the goth/dark high fashion/couture, designing things like purposefully ripped jeans to make purposefully dark clothing to express angst rather than actual working pants and clothing to be worn everyday;)

While the valley girl mare represents the high fashion/couture that makes beautiful gowns and dresses and such that are so beautiful that you can't even wear them the things like Grand Galloping Gala in fear of destroying it by walking, that's how fragile high fashion/couture dresses can be sometimesXD

And as for the new stallion, he represents the clothing in high fashion/couture where it's about futuristic clothing and/or creating new abstract but artistic shapes in clothing and design

It would have been a better scenario for Applejack to play out is to simply critique on the clothing's practicality to the extent of the clothing being practical enough to let the models simply walk the designs down the runaway safely, and nothing more.

HOWEVER, what would make Applejack work in this episode, and thus the episode as a whole would work, is to simply make this fashion competition a designer competition rather than a high fashion one. Then, have the young designers act as young designers. In other words, make them talented with great potential, but also show that they still have far to go and need some constructive and helpful advice from Applejack and the other judges:) Also, give this fashion competition an actual winner please not decided by Applejack but by EVERYPONY;) Just sayin;)

BUT, I did appreciate Rarity's rock solo on the guitar:

And the return of everypony's favorite fashionitas Hoity Toity and Photo Finish <3

(Her eyes 0-0! We can see her eyes?!:o)

Haha lol;)

With that out of the way, onto "A Royal Problem"!:D The big Celestia and Luna episode we've all been waiting for!:D *sigh* I know everyone so far likes this episode, and I know that I'm going to get some hate for this, but...I'm giving this episode 7.9 hearts out of 10<3

Hold on! Before you throw the tomatoes at me, hear me out! I have a good reason why this episode wasn't rank so high on my list!

But before the negatives, let me just say that I did appreciate the character interactions and the comedy in this episode, especially the comedy presented by our dear TwilightXD Just, oh my gosh girl!XD

As well as, the introduction of every pony's favorite: Day Breaker, mwhaha!

Just like "Honest Apple" the beginning and the middle of the episode were really good at setting up the characters, the problem, and carrying out Luna's journey in appreciating Celestia's position as the Sun Princess. HOWEVER, when it came to Celestia's journey to appreciating Luna's position as the Moon Princess, it was too short for my taste:/ What would have helped with this is take some time spent on Luna's journey and put alittle bit of it into Celestia's journey like have Celestia deal with a few of the terrifying nightmares before Starlight's nightmare. Speaking of nightmares, Luna's nightmares was just plain horrifying and beyond the G rating of this show 0-0

Anyway, I would have appreciated if Celestia had a bit more patience and appreciation for Luna's job since she had to take over for her job for a thousand years. Although, we find out in this job that her powers don't include the dream realm. So, it sounds like, during those thousands of years that Celestia didn't help ponies with their nightmares. Dang, those ponies had it rough and our ponies today pretty much have it easy:o But the question remains: How did Celestia sleep during that thousand year reign by herself?0-0 These are the questions people! Lol;)

Also, how can Starlight access the cutie map in the castle now without a chair of her own/element of harmony?!X0 I mean, I know she lives there now and she's Twilight's student, but just how!?X0 How did the map/Tree of Harmony just suddenly decide now that Starlight gets to go on Friendship missions now?! Especially before Spike can!X0 And he has his own chair and has lived in the castle longer!X0 I suppose in the context of this theory, it makes sense:

But still, at the same time, in the context of this theory, Spike was subject to the map of Starlight's spell, so he should be able to access the map too and have the map give him missions too. I guess I'm a little ticked off and confused that Starlight got a cutie map mission before Spike did, and a solo one no less. I hope this season or next season gives Spike his friendship mission too, I feel like he would be really good at it:) And Discord should go on one too, with Fluttershy;) Lol!XD

great review

I think some of starlight's magic was infused with the map when she used magic on it and only after she turns good did the map recognize her as part of the friendship quests. Still waiting for Spike to be summon though.
