Welp, I guess I'm going to be the dissenter this time around. I liked that new episode, yaks or no yaks.
I mean, I'm biased, and I admit that. I love Pinkie Pie, and this was really good Pinkie Pie. Competent Pinkie who has her shit together. I'm a big fan when they write her that way.
And... I dunno. The yaks didn't really grate on me. A lot of the jokes hit. It wasn't rushed. I can't find a lot to complain about. I like low-key, slice-of-life episodes, so this was fine for me. Looks like I'm in the minority, but this one gets a gentle thumbs up from me. It'll never be a favorite, but it was an okay way to spend twenty-two minutes.
It was... okay. Not much more than that.
Better than the new Alien film.
Well fwiw I liked it. This is the kind of Pinkie Pie I like to see, for exactly the same reasons.
The only thing that really bothered me about this episode is the loose treatment of continuity, but so far that's an unfortunate condition of this season as a whole.
Agreed. It was fluff, but it was fun fluff. Heck, there was even a clever moment of foreshadowing when Rutherford proudly spoke of the village's domestically grown vanilla beans; yaks won't even ask for help with trade goods.
Plus, it reinforced my headcanon that Rutherford is the least favored member of the royal family and lives in exile, telling himself that he rules over all Yakyakistan while inflicting himself on a single outlying village.
And "Yikslurburtfest" is fun to say, so there's that.
Pinkie missed out on slushies, smoothies, cones, bars,..
And here is Yak icecream parlour. Ladies only.
I realize I couldn't concentrate on anything Pinkie was doing -- I have no opinion as to whether or not she was written well -- because I was too busy hating the yaks and cringing every time Rutherford opened his fool mouth. :C
I agree completely!
PINK PONY NOT NEED APPLE PONY HELP!
4542386 Man, is the new Alien film that bad? I have yet to see a positive mention anywhere.
4547885 It is, yes. Boring characters, an odd plot, virtually NO Xenomorphs in a film called, you know, Alien, and there were several references to the first, nearly perfect Alien film, but this one did them biggerer and betterer! My brother and I had to figure out if it was worse than 4. It's not, but not by too much.
4547870 I guess people really don't like those yaks. I'll admit that they weren't my favorites in their first appearance, but I found them entertaining enough here. I mean, Rainbow's parents are just the same joke over and over, too, and I loved them. I'm cool with the yaks.
Plus, I like playing barbarians in AD&D.
