So, I saw some Let's plays of the game MERC the other day, a sort of XCOM-style game where you command a Mercenary company in a dying Earth. I got somewhat inspired. Enough to get myself thinking. Plus, my replaying of the flash game Armor Mayhem may have had something to do with it. And maybe Gears of War, too. Ah, hell, here's the description.

This story, called When Terra Burns, is sort of like the famous fic Halo-On the Wings of Angels, where Twilight has vanished after a magical malfunction. Three months later, she reappears, clad in strange armor and equipped with strange weapons. And she's got one hell of a story. She was teleported to the human settlement of Orleans, or what remains of it. Due to experiments with energy drilling, a subterranean race called the Drillers has awoken after centuries of sleep. And they have risen to the surface and are waging a war against humanity as a whole. Twilight is rescued by a group of soldiers from a Black Ops squad of the Human's United Colony Front called the Seraphs. She joins their ranks to push back the Drillers and find a way home.
