Early New Year's resolutions, and Old Year's conclusions

Well, another year's come and gone. How did the resolutions go? Half and half in my case. Managed to partially accomplish what I set out to do, moving from wondering how to do things to figuring out what to do. I believe I've successfully identified the habits that are hampering or even harmful to me, so that's progress.

    Resolutions for the new year?

Summer update 2: What's Sticking to the Wall?

    Quick update on future plans.

Still working on the original stuff, I think I'm down to the last rewrite of what I wanted to do, only question is what to change in terms of details. Art's had some progress, but work responsibilities and sweet, sweet sleeping problems have caused disruptions.

    Summer update: what next?

Honestly? Not sure. I never publish anything that's not complete, so I'm not breaking any promises there. Thing is, I haven't started on anything new yet, and hadn't lined anything up before the previous one.

PSA: Whatever happened to Filly Funtasia? · 8:01am Apr 9th, 2017

Okay, I've been getting repeated questions about this ( a whopping two :twilightsheepish:) over the past few days, so... what did happen to Filly Funtasia?

The short answer: we're not sure. 'We' being the Filly fandom, a fandom big enough to fit into a small classroom, but a fandom nonetheless.

The long answer: it's in post-Hell, most likely.

You have to understand first and foremost that this isn't like Hasbro, one big entity in charge of things. It's several. Dracco is the owner of the Filly brand, and the rights to the toys. Simba (aka the humping elephant brigade) used to hold some rights to toy distribution, but has now been removed (it's also Simba that got sued by Hasbro over other products, not Dracco). And then we have BRB.

BRB was the distributor, it's where most of the info came from. They've since withdrawn all their Filly material from their YouTube page and mostly removed it from their own websites. Any trailers you see now are mirrored videos from the fans.

But we've seen screenshots, short scenes from the show, and we have synopses from a few episodes. There's one where the main character has to contend with one of the boys developing a crush on her because her friend didn't respect lab safety rules. Also, this show has teenagers making love potions in class. Just throwing that out there for your consideration. It has an episode where a monster story leads to the gym teacher threatening lethal force right from the getgo. Celestia gets outdone by a guy with wings on his hat. It has an episode with a transgender villain. Yeah, not even kidding. Dude's stuck in a mirror, gets out, female body. Even Ben 10 only got as far as hinting at the gender swapping villain. Though I suppose they beat it to the punch when it comes to furry fetish material (seriously, that werewolf episode... crazy girl to have as a love interest, that.)

Anyway, we've heard rumours that there's a movie. We've heard rumours that there are two movies. There may be some Filly content coming up in the Appnimation program, which is basically Source Film Maker for a different set of franchises.

Based on the renders, it would appear as though at least the first Season of the show is finished. What we do not know is which channel will be hosting it and when/if it will ever make it to air. The worst-case scenario is that it gets buried, but given the investments made into it so far, that seems unlikely. Second-worst case is that it's a Direct-to-DVD affair. One final step up from that is... they've hit a rough patch in the toy sales, and are/have been planning to release the show in tandem with another toyline. Which would mean we just have to wait for a few more releases. They may just be waiting for the MLP thing to hit its peak and release it during a hiatus.

But yes, somewhere, out there, beneath the pale moonlight, there is a disk containing magical 3D muppet ponies getting up to shenanigans. So it is not a lost cause, it's not destroyed or anything. It's not dead; it's in stasis. Like Cthulhu. And when it wakes up, the end result will likely be the same as with ole' squidface.

On a related note, you may know I'm also a fan of the Niko movies. You know, the ones about a reindeer who was the bastard child of one of Santa's flying reindeer ("I think one of you is my dad. Did any of you ever take a doe on a sleigh ride?" -"We're the Flying Forces; you're gonna have to be a little more specific than that, kid." :rainbowlaugh: Classic.) That's getting its own series, too. But that one is in Development Hell, not Post Hell. There hasn't been anything new on that; no new renders or dialogues, or even mentions of plotlines. Well, unless you count one overhead view of the freaking map of the show as something new. One of the artists working on it put up a trailer, but it's all just clips from the movies set to a score that's less Lord of the Rings and more Frozen... so a step back from the movies in that regard. As far as I know, work has only started on that, nothing's finished. But that one's getting funding from Europe.

Hope that clarifies things. I, for one, look forward to seeing a bunch of CG ponies blow stuff up. And I am somewhat miffed it's taking so long.

Damn quartzbrains.

Cracker out.

I was actually wondering about more nico, but completely forgot about funtasia. If it's in post-hell then the chances of us seeing it are about 99% right? And you just reminded me, that, like Nico, it is a foreign kids thing, so it will be hardcore in random and unexpected ways our american minds aren't capable of handling.

In all the best ways, yes.
