I'm back! Also, news about plans going forward. · 3:24am Mar 23rd, 2017
Well, as anyone that this is intended for has noticed, after far to long a delay, I'm back doing things, I shall now pause for the celebration.....
Alright now that that is out of our systems. So yeah sorry about that, lots of reasons, some kind of self pitying, (the usual, boo-hoo I got not enough attention, feel ignored phase everyone ends up going through and I know I really should just ignore) some just IRL stress, some just.. well inertia. Others were more about burn out, or just, wanting to do things but, not sure what to do, reviews the length, depth and detail of mine are... kind of hard to do sometimes, but also a great way to just, help me get my thoughts in order and I do love doing them. But, maybe not QUITE so many.
In any case I do have plans to get more stuff done more often, first off, not all of it is the long, complicated reviews I normally do, but still some of those. Others, collections of shorter, easier reviews of stories I have something to say about, but really aren't large or complicated enough to get the full review treatment.
I've also realized, I do a lot better on reviews for stories the second time I read them, it lets me go through, see more details, look at early stuff with the full context of what is going on later, catch things I missed, etc... so considering a short, more general "First impressions" for new stories I've just read, saving the more in depth stuff for fics that are good enough to make me want to go back and read them again. (Or in one already reviewed, and one 'it's on my list' case, are so bad I don't ever want to reread them and just really want to make a review of where they went wrong.)
The other big thing I've been trying to get myself to do is something I've talked about a while. I've hinted, or mentioned in several reviews, that in any list about pony fics, hell even stories in general, one of them tops it hooves down. Fallout: Equestria but, that thing is to massive, to complex, to grand, to, just plain epic in every sense of the word to do a simple review of. No, this is going to be something different. Technically old, but might as well be new. Long, long ago, what actually got me started doing this stuff, was a liveblog a buddy (Who, anyone who has seen us at each other's throats over FOE would swear we loathed each other, but outside that we are good friends) did about his first read through of FOE and... he did not like it, at all, for reasons that I did not like, at all. Some were just, it's not a type of story he likes period, others were, well let's not get into that. Point is, in response to his overall negative, and to me highly unfair liveblog of it, and with a little encouragement from Kkat (thanks again for that) I did my own, counter liveblog of my second read through of the story, essentially doing a chapter by chapter let's read/review of the story. Posted on another site that, isn't the greatest for that stuff, and I've since barely touched. I'm going to be bringing that over to this blog in stages, polishing it up a bit, maybe tweak some stuff better, but still, hope you all enjoy it. For a general idea what it's like, see the very earliest blogs I did, which were me doing the same thing but for FoE: Hooves of Fate, something I started after the original FoE one was done. (As to why I stopped that, well, seemed rather... vain, dull, and also, not quite right to be gushing on and on and giving impressions for a story I was now helping to make, since Sprockett brought me on as his primary pre-reader/editor once I had caught up.)
In any case, hopefully I keep this up, if not, someone poke me a few times if I haven't done anything lately. Glad to be back and hopefully you all like what is coming up.
Yeah, I definitely don't begrudge you for feeling burnt out. Oftentimes I have difficulty writing decent comments, let alone properly formatted analyses. Sometimes you just write stuff and the author doesn't respond and it's disappointing. Ah well, comments should be as much for you as for your audience - it's good to put your thoughts into words.
For real, do people pay much attention to blog tags?
