So...here's the issue.
I have heard some interesting news about season 7...
Minor spoilers below
A bit of news have confirmed that Rainbow Dash's parents will be appearing in season 7, and their names are certainly not Firefly and Rainbow Blaze.
My brain have almost exploded trying to figure this out
, and I have maybe thought out a few ways to salvage this mess.
Option 1: ignore the news and just continuing on as if nothing happened.
Option 2: Rewrite the whole thing when the parents are revealed so that their names match how they are in canon.
Option 3: Make Rainbow an adopted child. (To clarify: if Rainbow Dash is adopted then she won't know about it, not until later on in the story at least.)
The last one has a number of options available
A: Make Rainbow Blaze the brother of either one of Rainbow's parents similar to the whole Uncle Ben and Aunt May thing.
B: Have her be adopted by Firefly who then married someone who could be Dash's stepfather. That would mean that Rainbow Blaze would have to change his name and remove the mention of him having rainbow-coloured hair but with no changes to his personality. (If he's unrelated then why would he have the same hair and also be called Rainbow?)
Addendum: Maybe the new stepdad could be...I don't know...maybe Soarin? I know he doesn't seem old enough (and SoarinDash shippers might be weirded out), but that wouldn't be too much of a problem to do, and the Rainbow Blaze I wrote has already shown to have an interest in pies. Also, if any Soarin fans want to see him in this story, this would probably be the best way to do that.
If any of you can figure out someone else than Soarin who would fit into that role then be my guest, I just don't want it to be an OC.
Now before I make a decision, I want you to tell me what you think. How could I salvage this mess, and what would you like to see? I have one option that I'm leaning more at, but I won't tell you which one until I hear what you think first.
I say option A just ingnore it. This is a fan fiction it doesn't have to be 100% accurate.
I would say option 3B. Cause it would put a new spin on it instead of the whole uncle and aunt routine. At least that's what I think.

Thank you all for your response, I have taken your opinions on the matter and the advice of a friend in real life who gives me a lot of good ideas for this story, and I have made...a decision.
Two comments (plus one upvote on one of those comments) favour for me to just ignore it, but one suggests that I go with the whole RD being adopted thing. This means that I probably shouldn't make things too complicated or convoluted, or change too much. However, I myself often find it weird to read a story where for instance Fluttershy's parents or Diamond Tiara's mother are written completely differently than how they are later revealed to be in the show, so I don't want to rule out the whole adoption thing either.
So here's what I'm leaning towards: How about making only the smallest of changes by changing Rainbow Blaze's name to something like perhaps 'Windy Blaze' and just remove the one line where it said he had rainbow hair, leaving things open for them to either be her real or adoptive parents depending on what I want to do with this story or what Rainbow's canon parents would be like.
