Potential re-cast of Spider-Dash villains! · 3:27pm Mar 18th, 2019
Have you ever had a great idea for something...but then later something comes along that is even better than what you first came up with? Well, that's basically where I'm at.
Here's the deal, in my story 'the Awesome Spider-Dash, Origins', I have long foreshadowed a mysterious mob boss called the 'Crystal King'...and is hinted at being Sombra. So, basically the Kingpin of this story. I chose him for the role mostly because Sombra seemed like a great villain to hide in the shadows and no one else fit the bill at the time.
However...after the arrival of the MLP Movie, the ps4 Spider-Man game and 'Into the Spider-Verse', I realised that Sombra wasn't the right character for the Kingpin role after all.
Firstly, Wilson Fisk is freaking HUGE! and that is something he is iconic for...and King Sombra isn't that much bigger than a regular unicorn. Plus, he seems to work more on black magic that go straight into people's minds (usually by special mind-control helmets) rather than ever resorting to brute force...which all in all far more resembles a completely different Marvel villain...
...Mr Negative!
After the ps4 game came out, I have wanted to do something with him, and given that his powers are pretty similar to Sombra's, then wouldn't that be a better fit for him?
But then...if Sombra isn't Kingpin, who is?
Well, how about this guy?
Just like Kingpin, he's got a very short temper, he's huge (I mean, Tempest is taller than most ponies, and he completely dwarfs her in this image), and he's not above getting his hands dirty if he needs too. Plus, they're both voiced by Liev Schreiber, so that's a plus.
I have already established him as a business associate of the Crystal King in the story so far, but with just a few minor tweeks, he could straight up just be the Kingpin instead (oh, and he would be called 'Kingpin' rather than 'Crystal King', because honestly, I'm not too proud of that name).
I know going through with this would probably be the biggest retcon I've done yet, but that is why I'm putting it in a blog post for you guys. However, I can promise you that this switch won't change too much of the story that I've written, but I just can't shake it out of my head that this would work better for the story I want to write.
What are your opinions about this? Are you okay with this change or do you prefer it the way it was? I'll probably change it anyway, but I would still like to hear your thoughts on the matter.
I'd say go for it. Sombra would definitely be a great Mister Negative.
It sounds pretty great. Storm King does seem to fit the role more than Sombra.

I have just gone and retroactively changed it so that the 'Crystal King' is now 'Kingpin', and Luna is one of the few who knows that Kingpin is Rex Storm (Rex is latin for king, get it?), while Sombra is a completely unrelated villain who will show up later on as a version of Mr Negative.
While I had already decided on what to do, your approval made me feel a lot better about my decision. Thank you.
