Batpony Progress · 3:52am Feb 5th, 2017

In which I talk about my batpony story on deck.

After two whole weeks, I finally have... most of the prologue complete. Currently it sits near 2,000 words. At first, that doesn't look like much, and I can tell you that it doesn't feel like much, but I've spent a lot of effort putting together some OCs, coming up with just a wee bit of lore, and making sure the setting is right. (There may be a couple of puns.) I hope the pace picks up now that I have a large chunk of the conceptual stuff already done.

I think this story might end up focusing on a different character than I had expected, but I'll have to write out the first chapter to get a better idea. So far, I have an idea of what the story's going to be about, but very little specifics on what to write. If writing the prologue is anything to go by, though, I think I'll have a good idea by the time I finish the first chapter.

I don't promise the most creative, original premise. In fact I promise nearly the opposite. In the end that probably doesn't matter, but now you've been warned. The story was originally supposed to be fluff for the sake of fluff, but then I made characters and got ideas for an actual story. In that light, though, fluff for the sake of fluff is still likely to come up. I won't publish it until I have at least one chapter ready (in case anything swerves or goes south, you know), and I've got nothing on how long that'll take.

Now have a snippet of the prologue draft, which will probably imply more about what you can expect than I could easily tell you directly:

By then, she had arrived at her home. More specifically, where she lived with her parents. They didn’t live very close to Canterlot Castle, but they did live a bottle’s throw away from a barracks and her father’s workshop. There were also a couple of bars. The local joke was that the Lunar Guard’s purpose was to keep its off-duty members under control.

Hmm. Intriguing start, to say nothing of how the story's evolving beyond your original expectations. That can be a very good sign. I look forward to seeing it published.
