Why I write fanfiction · 9:00am Jan 14th, 2017
I've gotten the question about writing fanfics before. A lot of people not actually into it ask why I choose to write fan created works in the universe of My Little Pony when I could write my own original story set in my own universe.
The truth is, creating a whole universe with types of species and race is a lot of work. It takes a lot of time to create the fictional logic and natural law of an imaginary world. Don't get me wrong, I'm not being lazy about it, I am creating my own fictional world, but it's not exactly a short or easy thing to take on.
See, when a universe in fiction is fully developed in detail, you read the story and get the feeling of extremely detailed, carefully constructed fiction. Not everyone cares about that feel, and not everyone even fully notices, but putting that much effort into a fictional world expands the amount of people that would want to read it. You'll notice that in my stories, I add a lot to the universe of MLP, whether it completely respects canon or not. I just feel like the MLP universe while detailed, is far from complete. I'm often wrong about my speculations, for instance, in Metalwing, I felt that changelings, like insects are adult when they exit a larval infant stage. I assumed a bee-like process of development and a hive mind type of interaction. Obviously, looking at the season finale of the newest season, I was wrong. But it's alternate universe, so it's alright, right?
So when I write a fanfic, I'm going for something that would hold its own as a standalone fiction when put into an original universe, but I set it in the MLP universe, one that's obviously already almost completely constructed, streamlining the process of creating a digestible story
