My Thoughts On The New Healthcare System · 4:28pm Jan 12th, 2017

In a press conference yesterday, Trump said they are going to repeal and replace Obamacare the same day with a new bill that was drawn up. The new plan allows for people to earn interest on their insurance policies that they can take out to pay for medical expenses. It basically pays for itself in the longrun. And it keeps all of the best aspects of Obamacare but with little cost because it encourages competition across State lines. There's a bunch of information about the new plan online/ on the government sites.

Here is one of many sites that breaks down the details of the new healthcare plan: https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/healthcare-reform

Personally I wish that we weren't forced to purchase healthcare at all. My mom and I can't pay the rent and in top of that we are forced to pay for healthcare we can't even afford. We haven't had healthcare since the bill was passed. As a result we are in a bunch of debt because they charge you on your taxes for not having it. Now we are thousands in debt because of 'free healthcare'. I can only hope this plan won't charge people who don't have it because my mom and I will just be in more debt.

But what are your thoughts about this whole situation? Do you think Americans should be forced to pay for something they don't want and get fined on their taxes if they don't have it? Do you think they should get rid of the system all together? Or do you think healthcare should be reformed so it is truly be free for everyone?

I am curious to hear your thoughts on all of this.

Please try to keep the conversation civil. I will delete comments that devolve into a heated political debate which has nothing to do with the topic. Show respect for everyone's opinions in the comment section. Thank you in advance.

I think the system needs to be completely reformed. It's obviously not working.

I don't have much to say on the matter as I'm not that politically involved, but I know there is something seriously wrong when we spend the most on healthcare yet rank one of the worst in that area for developed countries.

4380292 I completely agree with you. It either needs to be completely free for everyone or they need to make it so it isn't mandatory for everyone to have it. Or heck, why not both? You shouldn't be forced to get something you don't want in my opinion (whether it is free or not). And you certainly shouldn't force people to pay a penalty on something they never even wanted in the first place. But that is just my perspective on things.

This yet another example of great for those that have it, punishing for those that don't. I really don't understand why everyone is forced to have it? And if you can't mantain it then it's even worse.

I think heath care should be free and not have people who don't have it pay for it. I honestly don't like it.

In my perfect libertarian utopia, we'd get rid of healthcare plans entirely. But alas, the iron fist of socialism continues to force this travesty upon us. At the very least, I don't think people should be forced to pay for something they don't want.

I completely agree. The government should make the healthcare program free for everyone. And the government shouldn't punish people in the form of a fine who choose not to be on it. Because then they are basically punishing people for not having something they don't want in the first place. Which seems to violate a lot of freedoms laid out in the Constitution. But that's just my view on things.

4380436 I was under the impression that the new system that replaces Obamacare is going to be even worse for those who are poor.

4380774 It actually seems like it is going to improve on the current plan including letting people earn interest on the money as well as letting people have direct control over how it is spent on their medical needs among other things.

That being said, I would prefer the healthcare system to be free like how it was originally meant to be when it was first proposed. At the very least they should stop charging people fees on their taxes who can't afford to purchase healthcare. You shouldn't be forced to buy something you don't want or can't afford in the first place. But those are just my thoughts based on my personal experiences.

It should either be free or be scrapped.

Yeah our healthcare system is pretty broken. Obamacare has led to insane prices and debt for many. I think we should have a system much more similar to Canada's, that is basically provided publicly. At the very least one shouldn't be penalized for not having healthcare via taxes. That's just dumb. I think Big Pharma needs to be reformed and controlled as well, as drug prices are ridiculously high too.

4380897 I completely agree with you. I just hope that the new healthcare system won't penalize individuals who can't afford to buy health insurance. And I also think it would be great if it would cancel any debt from the old system since it no longer applies.

4381199 America should learn a thing or two about how the Canadian healthcare system is run. Honestly I feel that we should either have a free healthcare system or none at all. But that is just my view on things based on my own personal experiences.

We'll have to wait and see Lyra

4381695 This is very true. The only thing we can do is hope for the best.

4381338 I wholeheartedly agree.

Also, I hope you don't mind my random and off topic questions I've asked about Arizona in the past :twilightblush: XD.

4382302 It was no trouble at all. I always like helping the best way that I can. :)
