So I saw the unfair side of the internet some today. I usually do a pretty good job of keeping my nose out of trouble, but it seems like I didn't this time. I was on a subreddit for DC comics because I really enjoy them recently, but anyways there was a thread about an article on the upcoming Harley Quinn project: Gotham City Sirens movie. I mentioned, like others did, concerns about them race swapping characters since Hollywood does that. I went further and mentioned how they will also sometimes change up the race swapped character to something that they think those of the character's new race would better like the character. Doing this they can even change up the character to a point where the character is that character in name only.
This other user comes in and rudely and obviously snidely questions me about what I meant and I tried to explain to him what it was. I may not have been super nice about it, but I did admit at the start of that same post I might be taking his tone wrong and apologized if that was the case. He then calls me a racist fucking dude while taking what I clearly said out of context while accusing me of thinking people of that race all act that way. I then tell him I'm not racist and tell him how he took what I said out of context and how I was saying it was Hollywood in the example using bad racial stereotypes thinking that would make the character more likable to the race they were swapped to. He never responded back and he was calling pretty much everyone in that thread a racist and yet I was the one who got banned for breaking their rule of "Don't be a jerk", while the person calling everyone a racist didn't get banned or anything. I know this because I looked at the person's user name and saw they were still posting a lot in that subreddit. So much for it being a friendly community to talk about DC comics.
It is too bad because I liked getting into discussions there about comic book related things without having to worry about it devolving into some stupid DC vs. Marvel thing. People can like both, and if you don't like one you don't have to attack the people who do like it.
Anyways... so this isn't a complete waste of time for anyone who happens to read this blog post. I haven't really been working too much on my stories lately because I got to a tough point for me to get the tone of the next chapter of my Rainbow Rocks story right. I do have a good bit of it written and I sort of know where I want to go with it, but I just haven't really been as focused on the story, especially with Thanksgiving and now Christmas going on. I will try to get further with the story soon, but I can't make any promises.
