    old plans, part the end

Somebody pm'd me to ask me how this was going to end and I realized I did in fact have it in me to post this. Sure wish I'd managed it six years ago! Things in parentheses are the bits that'd take too much time to handle in this format.

    regarding fanfanfics

To reiterate, A New Sun is dead. It's so dead that I'm having trouble forcing myself to summarize the ending. But I know a lot of people still care, because they've told me so. More to the point, someone just asked me for permission to do a sort of rework of ANS.

    old plans, part 5

I'm busy with school, my hands hurt, and it turns out my dog has pancreatic cancer. So these are going to get shorter, but they have to happen because, I don't know, they just do.

The following is either one or two chapters.

4265031 I don't even want their stupid smelly means of production, not at the moment. I just want the production to end up in the hands of someone who isn't approaching carpal tunnel syndrome. Fuck QWERTY, fuck human frailty and the structure of the hand, fuck the concepts of time and language.

No seriously this week I'm going to see what Domino's is looking for in an employee. So far I'm not seeing "enthusiasm" or "ambition" on any of their employee requirement lists, which is great for me, because my brain doesn't do those things outside of some extremely specific places. I don't trust anyone who says they feel that way, in point of fact.

Yesss.. I'll be honest i re-read this story sometimes the dialogue and character interaction is so good, I am waiting with bated breath for ch 26

4265083 Thanks! I try. I try.

Heres an idea:
I happen to be a very fast and efficient typist. At school I take word for word transcripts of classes for my classmates who are hard of hearing or who otherwise need accommodations.

If the problem is that your work makes your hands too tired to write, what if instead you recorded yourself *saying* your story and I could transcribe a rough draft for you to work from and edit later?

4265284 Hey, note-taking for people in class? That's cool. I've just been doing focus groups on shoes and crackers. It's interesting in its way, but it isn't what I'd call contributing to society.

Terry Pratchett and James Joyce did it that way, having their stuff transcribed. It's a surprising offer and it never occurred to me. Thank you--but no, I can't see it, not the way I do things. I can't even imagine how they did that in practice. Especially Joyce, because how the hell does a guy write something like Finnegans Wake out loud?

I could break down the issues I'm seeing here if it's interesting, but basically, nope.

My hands are going to be much less of an issue when I get out of this job, so this isn't even going to be a problem for long.

Yeah I knew some authors used this method is why I thought itd be a neat option to make things easier on you!

Glad to hear you're getting a less painful job!

Pizza delivery might be fun: it isn't quite the same thing but I used to be a waiter at a Thai restaurant and I made a lot of friends that way. The tips were nice, too.

4266440 Waiting tables? Man. That shit is sorcery so far as I'm concerned. You walk several miles a day, customers are monsters, you never get more than a minute to yourself, and you can never drop the mask. I never know what to say to them because I don't know how to talk to wizards.

Delivering pizza means much less interaction with others, I imagine. I figure you spend a lot of the time in your car, which means I can spend a lot of the time doing whatever. I can listen to weird music, holler at the pizzas, swear all I want, whatever.

I wonder how much time a delivery guy spends at home base.

Problem with delivery is you generally pay for your own gas, which cuts into your earnings a lot. Careful of that.

4270850 Domino's reimburses gas, so I'm starting there.

4270945

From what I hear Domino's treats employees and customers well, despite having mediocre-at-best pizza, so that seems like a good plan.

4270971 Yeah, my sister also tells me they're cool to work for. And bad pizza is still pretty good, they always say (I've had exactly one exception in my life), so it's more useful to the rest of the world than these transcription jobs.

Re helping people, a lot of the transcription jobs I've had definitely made me uncomfortable. It's creepy to realize you're transcribing a room full of assholes. You're just doing your job and you sit back to stare at it like, "Did they just say that? Did I just write that down? Where do I go to call bullshit on this? Complain about this on my fanfic blog, tell my girlfriend, rant into a pillow?" Giving people pizza sounds way the fuck better.

Ragnar. Ragnaaar, buddy. I need my fics fix. I don't know how much longer I can go on, man. Help me help you. Gimme the goodssss *sniffling loudly*

4278416 We're doing college stuff right now--applying to them, in his case, and his chosen school has an acceptance rate so low that I'd swear it was the Illuminati. I'm afraid to so much as breathe in his direction in case I distract him.

Oh shit, yeah, good course of action. Best of luck, y'all.

Also, I was leafing through your blog posts and I wanna say that hell yeah, Words, Words, Words is great. "What's Funny" might be my favorite Bo piece.
