What Could Have Been... · 5:11am Oct 6th, 2016
So after reading about Legend of Everfree online, a part of me was sorely tempted to scrap my current project in order to pursue a new one built on the events of that movie. Fortunately, my more sensible side pointed out that I had poured so much time and energy into my Harmony and Valor series that giving it up now would set me too far back. Also, doing so would likely create a habit that would haunt me if I ever manage to start writing professionally. So don’t worry, for better or for worse, H&V will go on for as long as I can manage.
Still, it is a shame. My new idea was basically what the next movie might be like if the writers decided to weaponize Flash Sentry’s status as flat character. Far from being the popular guy Sunset and the others believe him to be, everyone simply takes advantage of his helpful and selfless personality, but tend to exclude him from things due to his supposed lack of a personality. Of course, it only seems like Flash lacks a personality because he has trouble connecting with people due to a lack of confidence, and knowing everyone’s opinion about him doesn’t help. Learning this serves as the catalyst for changing the main cast’s view of him, especially Sunset Shimmer (to be honest, my biggest motivation for this was my ire over her treatment of him during the film). As much as I would love to go into pages and pages of spoilers, all I can tell you is that it would have been really heart wrenching and awesome.
Of course, I haven’t given up entirely; I’m thinking of looking into collaborations. Also, I feel like I should point out that my profile for Flash here is completely different from the one I have for him in Harmony and Valor—just so we’re clear.
Good to hear that Harmony and Valor is here to stay. I look forward to seeing how this series will go and how you will use Flash in it.
Though if you ever wanted to do a small story, a one-shot perhaps, of Flash being mistreated like you imagine, it would be interesting to see. You wouldn't even need to make it part of your own universe, just a small story would be fine. But, you do whatever you want to do and focus on whatever you feel you need to. Glad you saw Legend of Everfree.
4242455 I didn't actually see Legend of Everfree, I just read its description online. It'll probably be awhile before I get around to actually seeing it.
4242581 Oh, my mistake.
