How funny that a couple of months after I return from a summer long sleepaway camp in the woods on the mountains, my little pony comes out with their latest movie based on a camp.
I was expecting a 'meh' movie, similar to the very the first one, as even though the set up was good, you never know. Better to be pleasantly surprise than disappointed. I was pleasantly surprised. I thought they would focus on something else based on the few clips I had seen before the movie came out. But I didn't mind what they did do in the end with the group. (Don't want to spoil if anyone hasn't seen it yet, so I won't mention specifics.)
I really do like Sci-Twilight though. She is much more interesting than normal Twilight when it comes to these Equestria Girls movies. And I really really like Sunset. She is doing so GREAT in these movies and is definitely progressing as a character.
I have one large problem with the movie though. And here is where the spoilers start (unless you've seen some of the movie clips...). I don't like the Timberlight they officially try to set up. This one story is mostly why: https://www.fimfiction.net/story/348713/wait-hes-how-old. This shows the problem very nicely. Except I have a few more specific problems with it.
To be a councilor at camp, you HAVE to be at least 18. HAVE TO BE. Especially if you want to be counted as an adult to watch students. His sister (I'm guessing older) is the director, something that cannot be left to an 18 year old so hopefully they aren't twins (which is what I first had thought). So Timber is potentially 18 to 25 (doesn't seem to act or look/behave like someone older than that). Ok, sure, age gapes don't matter too much, especially as people grow up (and AREN'T IN HIGH SCHOOL). But this guy is a councilor! A COUNCILOR! Someone in an authority position, hitting on and flirting and potentially getting a kiss from someone he is supposed to be watching and is accountable for.
This is just wrong. And Hasbro will NEVER state Timber's age because as soon as they do, they will be asked about the main group's age, which would limit the potential target audience. And get them into serious trouble about their shipping they do in the movie. This just rubs me the wrong way, and is the only thing that makes me upset at this movie. And they were so close to a great EG movie too. Ah well. They've certainly left more space for even more sequels. Guess we'll see how things go in the future.
