It's... all of the above, whenever it applies. Mostly, it's completing the scenes with the characters who act a bit like talking puppets. Mostly, it's just someone poking at me with a stick to write stuff.

"Where are we, Jill?"

"I don't know, Bob. We seem to be in a void."

"Are we stuck here forever, Jill?"

"I hope not, Bob."

Then, the scene opens. Bob, in his casual dress of tee-shirt and jeans, and Jill, in her simple pink blouse, sat on a multicolored quilt blanket underneath a tree. The tree shades them from the yellow sun of a clear day, as snow-capped mountains ring the grassy fields that Bob and Jill sat on. Bob, grabbing a basket from near the tree, said, "Now, isn't this much better?"

Jill took an aluminum soda can from the basket, cracked it, and took a quick drink from it. She then gratefully said, "Yes, now we seem to be in a real setting."

A rewrite-not-rewrite, essentially.
