Don't have a whole lot of time to explain things right now (woke up later than I wanted to this morning before work), but I'll share with ya'll some of the first day of the Colorado Journey I took with my younger brother. And bear in mind, this is all I've had time to edit down and upload so far-there's still roughly 40 HOURS left to go thru:
Also, leaving at 5 AM in the middle of a deluge was a stupid idea (and an advance warning for some language-you coop two 20-somethings up in a car for 12+ hours at a time and they can get testy ).
The epic journey to Colorado has begun! But first Wade and I must make it thru the North Texas deluge!
Wade and I finally made it off the nightmare of I-35, passed a car that had flipped onto a barbed wire fence...fun times. Heading to Decatur.
We passed Decatur around 7 in the morning and finally made it past the deluge! But now a new problem was setting in: HUNGER!
The skies are clearing out as we head for Wichita Falls. 75 miles into this epic, and we still need food!
On our way across the plains of Texas...or the Serengeti...we're not really sure. Hunger has driven us to terrible Australian accents as we pass thru the little town of Bellevue, TX, still heading West.
We made it to Wichita Falls! We're...a third of the way out of frickin' Texas...
Somewhere between Wichita Falls and Amarillo, in the middle of bum-f**k Texas! If any of you guys live out there, I don't apologize, but I do feel sorry for ya
Crossing the Red River WITHOUT going into Oklahoma! Weird, right?
Also, Ozzy!
Nearly to Amarillo, thru the sea of nothing!
Little did we know how badly we'd need a Jeep like the fella we passed as the days went on...
We didn't realize we got lost outside Amarillo...oops
REALLY lost outside Texline, TX. I only included this part to showcase how even when West Texas throws something at you besides flat grasslands and wheat fields...it's still a bore to drive thru and the tallest damn thing you'll pass is a random porta-potty! :P
But as we slogged our way towards the western horizon, we could just barely make out the shape of something massive in the distance...
That massive shape turned into the huge and ancient Sierra Grande shield volcano rising up out of the plains of the Clayton Volcanic Field in North Eastern New Mexico. NOW we're talking! And the best was yet to come...
We head for the Visitor's Center near the base of Mt. Capulin Volcano, one of the most visually-striking formations in the Clayton Field.
Making the drive up Mt. Capulin, with Wade doing his best to not fall off the side of the volcano as he selfie-sticks his Go-Pro into celebrity!
Check out that killer view at the top!
Anyways, that's all I've got uploaded for now, but I've got more coming! Also, keep an eye out for a major story update tonight once I get home as well
Welp, gotta run!
Wow that was a lot of videos with words and roads. The longest road trip I've ever been part of was a 12 hour one and that already was a bit much for my taste, I can't imagine myself (or my butt for that matter) lasting through a multi day road trip like this. Kudos to all of you that can.
Still after watching a number of those videos I got reminded of the music from Cars.
