Hey, everyone. It's been a while since I last made a blog post, so I thought I'd let you know that all's well. I've just been taking a brief break from writing while I started up a tabletop roleplaying group (Age of Rebellion, to be specific). I must say that being a GM flexes some very different storytelling skills than the ones I usually use. Anyway, I've got a fairly good idea of what my next story will be, so I should be getting back to writing relatively soon.
I know what you mean about writing vs. game mastering. Glad to hear you'll be writing again soon!
I'm DMing a weekly dungeons&dragons campaign. It's actually been a major experiment for me, because I've given a lot of the storytelling responsibility to the players. I'm letting them decide what to do while I just describe how it goes. I do have planned encounters and the monsters-of-the-week, but I have to wrap it around their choices and actions. I've never DMed like that before. I always had a very linear story planned out in my other games.
I wasn't sure about it at first, but I've come to really like DMing this way. It actually takes a lot of the pressure off, because I don't have to come up with everything anymore. I just have to react to it.
