Soul Searching, Soul Sister, and Soul Soldier

Hey... it's been a while, hasn't it? Not sure how much right I have to come back here after everything I've done, but this site just kinda popped back into my mind, and I came to the realization (too little too late, in a few senses of the phrase) that I left a lot of people here with a pretty bad taste in their mouths. I... don't really have anything to remedy that, I'm afraid. I just wanted to

    The New Episode...

I read the description of the next episode of MLP, and I could help but think of this...

That is to say, Starlight Glimmer just started playing Xenoblade Chronicles X.

    ...

Top Five Reasons My Life As I Once Knew it is Over

Just so you know, this isn't going to be a sad, whiny, "first-world problems" blog. I'm just explaining how I'm now a far cry away from a high school student doing nothing but writing fanfiction in his free time. Anyway, on with the list...

The Third-Stupidest Idea I've Had This Summer

So I've been playing and watching a lot of Metroid content lately, and my most recent endeavor was watching a playthrough of AM2R. (And bear in mind, I never actually played Metroid II myself...) Then, as I watched the final sequence where The Baby follows Samus off of SR-388, I thought about something: a fanfiction written from The Baby's

Metroid Other M: The Worst $22 I've Ever Spent (A Rather Long "Short Story", then a Review)

So, I finished Metroid Prime Trilogy a few weeks ago, and like an idiot, I didn't play a good Metroid game next. (I had my pick of the litter, too. Super, Fusion, Zero Mission, II... hell, I should have just replayed the Metroid stage of Kirby's Dreamland 3!) It started while I was at the flea market just a couple days after beating Corruption. I was armed with about $50 and looking for a new

This Could be Goodbye... · 7:57pm Jul 19th, 2016

There's a lot of things I wanted to post a blog about this week. I wanted to talk about how I finished Metroid Prime Trilogy, and give reasons as to how, despite how awesome it was, I would still recommend Xenoblade Chronicles as a $20 eShop buy. I wanted to talk about how I started playing Metroid: Other M, and maybe start a flame war or two by acknowledging the existence of any good things. (Which, in my opinion, there's at least one of.) I wanted to talk about Final Fantasy X, Kirby Squeak Squad, and/or my dog's recent dental surgery.

But alas, a more pressing topic has come up.

For those of you who may or may not remember, I had an issue with my computer last year that caused it to crash completely. Sure, I got it fixed after a time, but that was only because my computer was still under warranty. Yesterday, however, my computer decided to give me yet another problem. It boots up just fine, but it refuses to let me log in. (As in, "it won't bring up the login window, it gets stuck at that blue screen with those green and yellow streams in the background, and the words 'Windows 7 Professional' at the bottom.") Now here's the problem: the warranty expired two months ago, so now I'm screwed.

Well why didn't you do a backup?

Funnily enough, I was really trying to avoid using my computer too much (due to another issue) until I could get an SD card with enough space to hold a backup file. Yeah... 29GB wasn't enough. (Fuck you, SanDisk. If you're gonna advertise a 32GB card, make sure it's actually remotely fucking close to 32GB.) Well, the next-largest card Wal-Mart had was 128GB, and I wasn't about to not only go back to Wal-Mart, but also drop an extra $20+. So I had to trim a lot of my stuff. And do you wanna know what the bulk of the files were? Six copies each of every file used in default RPG Maker MV projects, and that's excluding duplicates used for mobile versions and Side View battles. So I planned on finding a way to fix that... yesterday. Now here we are today.

So why didn't you tell us all this yesterday?

I tried. I took my Wii U to McDonald's and typed out what was easily two pages worth of text - a difficult feat using a stylus and touchscreen, especially one that bulky. At last, I was done. But when I went to post the blog, my Wii U refused to do so. So that was immensely depressing.

Okay, here's the part we've been dreading.... What happened to your fics?

...

I hadn't realized until too late that I left them on the desktop, one of the places I had to cut to make room on my SD card. So everything that was halfway done, (meaning the next chapter of almost all of my fics) is lost.

So... can you rewrite them?

Of course I could, easily. But... I really don't know if I want to. I know, I'm gonna catch a lot of flack from people on this site who have been waiting patiently for updates and now see that their patience was for naught, but I just... don't feel like writing anymore. Like, in general. I haven't made any final decisions, but if it does come to my end on this site, I won't leave you empty-hooved. I'll name successors to my stories, people who I'll confide the remaining plots to, teach them how to write the stories, and then leave the rest to them. (I'll say this right now: if it comes to that and you want to be a successor, you're allowed to ask once, casually and politely. If I turn you down, I'm sorry. If you try again, I will delete your message.)

But again, I haven't made anything final yet. I've just started re-thinking my role as one who tells stories, that's all.

Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know what's been going on. I really and truly am sorry for this hell crafted from hiatus after hiatus, turned to potential cancellation, that I've subjected you all to, but I don't know if anyone believes me when I say that anymore. I don't even know if I believe myself.
Until next time...

Oh, and for the record, if it comes to me leaving, I will leave MLPR to no one. I'm determined to finish at least that one in some form or fashion myself.

Okay for a moment I thought you were going to leave the fandom.

4101411 Now THAT, my friend, is a day that will never come.

As one who didn't have a functioning computer for a little over two years after starting writing fanfiction, you have my condolences. Granted, between my original HDD suffering a mechanical failure (still haven't recovered the files off of it) and the Motherboard shorting, mine may as well have been slagged for all the good it did. Your situation isn't nearly as hopeless, as there are options to troubleshoot what may be wrong.

Now, I'm no "Geek Squad Expert" or what have you, but exercising some quick Google-fu for "Windows 7 won't boot past Windows loading screen" leads me to think that the issue may be a corrupted registry file. If you can load up in Safe Mode, or somehow access the BIOS boot options to run diagnostics and repairs, you may be able to salvage the situation (I guarantee nothing). Barring that, if you can get your hands on a Windows 7, 8 or 10 disc, you may be able to Reinstall/Upgrade Windows to a state where it will run, as the boot process bypasses normal loading. For windows 7, If you have a store bought Desktop or Laptop there should be a sticker somewhere on the case with your registry key and if you built your machine from individual parts you should have the disc you used to install Windows originally.

If you have a KEY, but it doesn't work, you can try calling Microsoft Tech Support (:pinkiesick:), explain the situation and Hope they reactivate your key. This option is ~iffy~, as I've heard mixed results in the past and Microsoft's Tech Support is notoriously unhelpful

Worst comes to worst, Windows has the Instillation files necessary for various Windows versions available on their web site for "Free" (meaning the files are free, but registering still requires you to pay if you don't have a valid KEY), that can be loaded onto a BLANK Flash Drive or burned to a DVD. This is how I upgraded my Windows 10 version from 32bit to 64bit, but if you go this route you'll need to borrow a friends computer to grab the files and read up on how to install them if you end up using a thumb-drive, as it's slightly more complicated than popping in a disc. Even if you Don't have a valid registration, or don't want to pay for one, they usually give you a month or so before the registration starts cracking down on you, so you'll at least have time to salvage whatever files you feel you'll need.

4102215 Thanks for the help. I don't have my computer anywhere near my at present moment, so I won't do that stuff right now, but I'll definitely try your "Google-fu" techniques and see what I can remember.
