I Have Another Question >.< · 10:44pm Jul 10th, 2016

How long do you think pony engagements last? Mostly, us humans are engaged over a few months or so, but what about ponies? The Canterlot Wedding is a bit murky because I don't think we know when Shining proposed to Cadence Or I just don't remember it, and the circumstances were pretty special.

But what do you think? I-I'm just asking for a friend....:twilightblush:

Personally, I think they last as long as human engagements do, that is, until said pony/human couple wants to tie the knot so to speak.

I would assume the same length as humans :derpytongue2:

About the same as everyone else is thinking, which is the same amount of time.

Since ponies in Equestria are more human than pony, on a cultural and psychological level, I think it makes sense to just follow human traditions.

There's actually a lot of evidence (provided that you read between the lines) that ponies live several hundred years. So it's possible that an engagement would last years. Or decades.

Anyway, we won't know for sure unless the show confirms it.

Depends on the pony, I think. If somepony were as sporatic as Pinkie Pie or Sombra, they'd want to have the wedding as soon as possible. Somepony more serious would want to wait a little bit, maybe a month. And if it was for EEEEVIL reasons, it'd be eight away.

I've known people be engaged for a few months, others for a few years, and some people stayed engaged their whole lives, never wanting to get married.

So I'd guess from a few months up until 2-3 years, but I would go with whichever fits your story better.

Someone may have said this already while I was thinking, but I'd say about the same as human engagements, and if ponies do live longer in Equestria than humans, then just take the average lifespan of ponies and divide that by the average lifespan of humans. Then, take that answer and multiply it by the average days that couples are engaged.

I'm a math nerd :p

Since Equestria has already proven itself to comply with many of our social norms, then I'd estimate somewhere around the same time as ours. Keep in mind though. Engagements can be anywhere from a day (let's say a few because a day is a bit absurd) to many many years (let's say five or six). It really depends on who it is and their lives. Engagements have no set time. But usually...a six months to a year and a half. :twilightblush:

My headcanon is 3-5 months.

Also, for a friend, eh...? :trixieshiftright:

I imagine it's exactly the way it is with human engagements: it depends on the couple. Some couples don't even wait a week, others take years to finally get around to tying the knot.

probably the same as humans, just my opinion.

I'd say just a few months. Same as humans.

Also, I can't wait to see what your 'friend' does with this...

Pretty brief, if Twily didn't somehow hear about it before the wedding
