A Brief History of the Caribou Alliance of Kingdoms (A Bit of Worldbuilding)

Before the Great Unification beneath Enkhjargal I, the Caribou Tribes were constantly at war with one another. Enkhjargal united them, founding the Caribou Empire. Under the rule of his descendants the Caribou warriors descended from the Northern Mountains, conquering the ten-thousand tribes of the North including the powerful Bear and Ibex tribes. Thus, it became the first multiethnic nation in history. This ushered in the time known as the Great Northern Peace. While the Caribou were brutal conquerors, massacring all who stood in the way of their vision, their rule did create stability in the war torn North. They built roads, hospitals and schools which became great centers of learning. They warred with the Crystal Empire. Cadenza I (ancestor of Princess Cadence) handed them their first defeat. This deeply shook and humbled the Caribou. The Emperor was overthrown and a civil war broke out. The Great Northern Peace had come to an end.

Into this time of chaos came the Great Sage Stagayumi. A Caribou Prince who had grown tired of his decadent and lavish lifestyle he left his kingdom, five-hundred wives and children to seek enlightenment. He fasted till the point of starvation, but still did not find inner peace. He meditated beneath the Sacred Tree where he was tempted by Discord's Emissary to embrace a life of sin and debauchery. Overcoming the Three Temptations of Greed, Anger and Lust he achieved inner peace and became his world's Buddha. He spread the message of peace and compassion throughout the Caribou Kingdoms. The new faith spread as far as Equestria (Rainbow Dash is a practitioner as is Fluttershy.)

The once bloodthirsty and lust filled Caribou were transformed. Orphanages, state-funded hospitals and relief funds for the poor were established throughout the Caribou Kingdoms. Beautiful temples were also built as well as a series of "friendship roads" that connected the Kingdoms as well as the former provinces of the Empire.

While the Caribou would never again embrace the imperial system of government, they were forced to unite against Sombra when the Crystal Empire invaded its territory. The Caribou Alliance was formed when Kiln V was elected as High King. He defeated Sombra's forces and declared that his descendants would reign over the Caribou "till the stars fell from the sky."

The Caribou Alliance and Solar Empire of Equestria formed an alliance when the Minotaur Union attacked the island of Cervidae. The deer on the island had long been seen as protectorates of Equestria and subjects of the Caribou Kingdom of Rahan, the island having changed hooves many times. The combined Caribou-Pony forces defeated the Minotaurs and sealed the Caribou-Pony alliance. (Cervidae is now an independent republic).

The current head of the Caribou Alliance is High King Dainn, descended from Kiln, and devotee of Stagayumi's teachings. He is a personal friend of Celestia, his former tutor. Dainn was sent to Equestria as a fawn to experience the culture of the Caribou's long time ally and was taken under Celestia's wing.
