Mariusioannesp Speculates Wildly: The End of the Beginning of Season 6 and Movie Stuff · 2:53am May 12th, 2016

Greetings my Brony Brethren!

It’s been some time since I’ve done a speculation blog, and I feel it’s been a bit overdue. So, without any further ado, here’s some more conclusions I can jump to based on some the recent MLP news we’ve gotten.

The first bit of news is what just came out of Equestria Daily. Despite my assurances at the end of my review of "Newbie Dash" a few days ago, it seems that there will indeed be a hiatus between the two halves of Season 2, starting on June 11, the day the upcoming episode “Spice Up Your Life” airs. As you may know, part of my reasons for believing there wouldn’t be a hiatus was because “A Hearth’s Warming Tail” is supposed to air this week, and it’s a Christmas-y episode. And it’s May. It makes like zero sense. Wouldn’t they have saved it for the second half if it’s possibly airing closer to Christmas? I would presume if they are following roughly the same schedule as they did last season, then the second half of Season 6 will air in the autumn right after the next Equestria Girls movie airs. I also said before that my doubts that Season 6 will be MLP’s final season had a lot to do with it not yet being announced that it is in fact the final season. Well, with this hiatus, I imagine they’ll announce sometime before it’s over that Season 6 is the last season so they can drum up the premiere of the final episodes of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. You know, if that is indeed the case.

Moving on, let’s talk about the upcoming episodes. First up is the eighth episode of the season airing this very week, A Hearth's Warming Tail.

Air date: May 14, 2016

Synopsis:
Starlight Glimmer has a case of the holiday blues, so Twilight tries to help cure her by reading one of her favorite Hearth Warming's Eve stories, A Hearth's Warming Tale.

Even at this point, all we’ve got is this and few clips in a new promo released on Saturday.

I’ll just get this out of the way now, but it probably won’t be the last of it. It’s patently ridiculous that they’re airing a Christmas episode in May! I mean, the next day is Pentecost, the last day of Easter! It’s the wrong Liturgical season! Anyway, even though there isn’t much to go on, I will say that I suspect this “A Hearth’s Warming Tale” is a Hearth’s Warming version of A Christmas Carol. I also believe it will be presented with the Mane 6 and others in the roles of the characters in the story, just like the play in the very first Hearth’s Warming episode “Hearth’s Warming Eve”. This will also be the third episode this season that deals with Starlight Glimmer in some way. Honestly, I’m a bit surprised by the presence she’s had this season. I admit, I didn’t expect her to be in it this much. I think I recall hearing something once that Derpy and the other background ponies are supposed to have some role in the episode or something. At least we don’t have to wait too long to find out.

Next, we have the ninth episode of the season, "Saddle Row & Rec".

S06E09: Saddle Row & Rec
Original Airdate: 5/21/2016

When Rarity opens her flagship store in Manehattan, a tell-all article threatens to expose how badly her friends almost ruined the Grand Opening.

Y’all remember how at the end of my review of "The Gift of the Maud Pie" where I suggested there would be another Manehattan episode this season where Rarity opens up this new shop of hers. Well, it seems I’m right again. And the synopsis seems to indicate that all Rarity’s friends were involved in some fiasco at her store’s Grand Opening. After what happened in “The Gift of the Maud Pie” that could very well include Maud. This could mean this is the episode that will finally have that preview image with the swan boat.

You know after visiting Boston recently, I discovered the Boston Commons has swan boats. To my knowledge, New York’s Central Park does not. You got your cities mixed up powers that be behind MLP.

Anywho, the episode’s concept with a tell-all article threatening to expose this apparent fiasco sounds quite fascinating. I’m very interested in finding out how this all works out.

Next, we have the tenth episode of the season, "Applejack's Day Off".

Applejack's Day Off
Air Date: May 28, 2016

Synopsis:
Rarity struggles to get Applejack to relax at the spa; when Twilight and Spike attempt to take over Applejack's simple farm chores, it turns out to be a more difficult job than they thought.

Not much to say about this one to be honest. It seems pretty straight forward. I am concerned that this might be one of those episodes where Twilight’s attempt to use magic messes everything up more. I don’t know how I’d feel about that. Wouldn’t Twilight know better by now? But then again, it could depend on whether or not how reasonably unexpected the results of using the magic would be. I still hope for the best.

Next, we have eleventh episode of the season "Flutter Brutter".

Air Date: June 4, 2016

When Fluttershy tries to convince her freeloading brother to move out of their parents' house, he moves in with her instead, forcing Fluttershy to stand up to him and help him get over his fear of failure.

This is an episode I’ve been waiting for since the panel at last year’s SDCC revealed Fluttershy had a brother. This episode however is no way what I expected in the best possible way. The idea of a freeloading brother is something you usually see in media directed at older audiences and not usually children’s shows. I anticipate a very mature episode.

Finally, we have the twelfth or thirteenth (it’s unclear at the moment) episode of this season "Spice Up Your Life".

S06E13: Spice Up Your Life

First Aired: June 11, 2016

Pinkie Pie and Rarity discover a father and daughter struggling to keep their family restaurant open, which is cause of tension in their relationship.

There’s also this second, more detailed synopsis.

Pinkie Pie and Rarity are called to Canterlot to solve a friendship problem. Once there, they discover a father and daughter whose relationship is strained as they struggle to keep their restaurant open. Pinkie Pie and Rarity both want to help, but have different ideas on what “help” means.

Called to solve a friendship problem? As in by the Cutie Map! I hope that’s the case. There’s been a strange absence of the Cutie Map this season despite how much of a role it played last season. It’s also interesting that after five seasons worth of episodes that avoided pairing Pinkie Pie and Rarity, this appears to be the second this season to pair them together. This also appears to be the last episode that will be airing before the hiatus as the hiatus officially begins the day it airs. Unlike last season’s midseason finale, “Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep”, this episode doesn’t appear to have a possibly epic quality to it. It seems to be about Pinkie and Rarity disagreeing as to how to help a father and daughter keep their restaurant open. Either way, I’m just glad to finally be seeing another Cutie Map episode, even if it is the midseason finale.

I also like how the title alludes to that old Spice Girls song “Spice Up Your Life”. Y’all remember the Spice Girls.

Nostalgia!

I will also note that there was some information floating around that episode twelve was to be titled “Haytona 500”, but that’s already been debunked by Jim Miller according to Equestria Daily.

And now for some more news on the MLP movie. Equestria Daily recently revealed that Michael Peña and Uzo Aduba are up for roles in the My Little Pony movie. Michael Peña has been in quite a number of films like Tower Heist and most notably Ant-Man as well as TV shows like the short-lived Gracepoint. Uzo Aduba is best known for her role on Orange is the New Black for which she won an Emmy. Orange is the New Black. That’s another show I don’t watch. Of course, nothing is definite yet. Still though, this is some pretty big name talent the MLP movie has attracted alongside of the already confirmed Kristen Chenoweth and Emily Blunt. I wonder what roles they are being considered for. I’ve speculated in the past that Emily Blunt and Kristen Chenoweth could be two of the G1 MLP villains Hydia, Reeka, and Draggle. Uzo Aduba could be looking into a role as the third in their number. Or if the villain of the film turns out to be Grogar, I could see Michael Peña in the role of Bray. The comic relief minion is a role that kind of suits him. Or he could just be an original minion character to Hydia, Reeka, and Draggle. Or they could all be original characters with no way I can possibly know who they will be. Anything can still happen at this point.

What do y’all think about my various speculations on the MLP news of the day? Is there some merit to any of it, or am I just crazy?

God bless you all. God bless America. And God bless Equestria.

Out of all the episodes, I'm probably looking forward to Flutter Brutter the most. As for the movie, it's quite awesome that MLP is pulling in some big-name talent. The budget for the movie is probably extraordinarily larger than those of the EG films. I imagine the animation's going to be knocked up a few pegs because of this as well.
