Is this weird? · 2:04am May 11th, 2016

Ever since I can remember, I've hated---loathed---cartoon characters speaking in another character's voice, or doing an apt impression of another character. When I was a kid, I'd sometimes run out of the room with my hands over my ears because it drove me up the wall (there was an episode of Rescue Rangers that felt like nails on a chalkboard for me). I have no idea why this is, except that it's maybe a remnant of my OCD.

So Newbie Dash was really hard for me to watch. Does anyone else have a weird quirk like this? It's not the first time I've had to look away from the screen or take my headphones out while watching the ponies, but for some reason this one really got to me.

Although I must admit I liked this scene.

The thing that made me run out of the room as a kid, and still kind of makes me nervous today (same thing goes for one of my sisters) is when someone is embarrassing themselves or being embarrassed. Or at least, if I perceived it as being that kind of awkward. I went to see "Freaky Friday" with my mom, I kept saying I had to go to the bathroom.

"Lion King" was my blue meth, but I still always shunned three scenes. One was when grown up Nala and Simba meet each other (I still tuned back in for "Can You Feel the Love Tonight"), when Nala talks to Timon and Puumba, and the lionesses finding out that Simba was (allegedly) responsible for Mufasa's death.

Oh, and Mulan was tough for me as well. Particularly that one scene where she has to first pretend to be a man.

It's a little unconventional, but I don't know that I'd call it weird.

Found the whole episode strange in a way, the 'imitation' segment did bug me a little. But I was also howling with praise for Ashley in being able to spoof the other 5 characters so well. I think it was an extension gag from last seasons 'RD imitates Twilight' in Lost Treasure of Griffinstone.

I also thought Soarin's reactions ranged from 'Oohhh* need coffee' to what you posted here. I almost get the impression he may be a couple steps closer to Three Steps Back than the writers want to acknowledge.:raritywink: *Fabulous* :rainbowlaugh:

3937663 I know, right? I've always felt weird about SoarinDash anyway; with all due respect to those who ship it, it's always felt like the ship you choose when you're desperate to prove that Rainbow Dash is not a lesbian.

My main thought about imitating all the characters was that both Ashleigh Ball and the animators must've been having a lot of fun.

3945130 I agree on your view of SoarinDash, no offense to those shippers, but to me it's more of a 'crush'-ship than anything else. A kind of sports-idol crush. I also love the way that the staff has written Soarin at times as a slightly awkward colt. I firmly believe that most pegasi personalities, other than the Fluttershy, were written based on Thoroughbred Race Horses, and Soarin here was a good example of some personality behaviors I've seen. He can be both determined and professional, yet be dopey, distract-able, and skittish at the same time.
