Readers: WHERE'S THE CHAPTER?! Me: Well....

    Being the finale(but not the end of the book series) of The Last Alicorn: Book 1: Purpose, i've been rewriting parts of the chapter and deleting other parts over and over because I want this finale to be as epic as I'm imagining it. This is why the chapter is taking so long to come out^^;

Don't worry, I'm not going dark again!

In fact the current chapter i'm working on is sitting at 6k words but I do want to give a word of warning that in a month's time dawntrail will drop and while I'll still try to update my stories still, the new expansion will have the majority of my attention. So with that said, I'll hopefully have the new chapter out within a few days!

    You guys cool with that?

Why am I hearing so much shit about Win10? · 11:03pm May 9th, 2016

Granted, its not the best OS on the planet but seriously, I get people screaming (I'm numbering them for a reason):

1: I've been hacked and its all windows 10's fault!

2: My Hard Drive died and its all windows 10's fault!

3: I've got a virus and its all windows 10's fault!

And so much more... At which point I look at them with this face and ask:

What websites have you been surfing?

1 and 3: Just facebook!

Me:

1 and 3: Okay, Okay! I may have surfed a few porn sites but its still windows 10's fault!

Me: Do you have an Anti-Virus?
1: Well no but...
3: Yep! I have McAfee!(Epic facepalm by me)

Me: Windows 10 doesn't come with a built in Anti-Virus and don't you even count-

1: Yeah it does! It has its own firewall and everything!
Me:

2: What about me? I'm totally sure window's 10 is at fault for my-

Me: Software, even Operating System software, CAN'T fry your hard drive, Idiot.

2: Yeah it did!

Me: How?

2: Well I had a friend overclock my hard drive and Windows-

Me:

Moral of this post?

If something happens to your computer and your running windows 10...chances are its your fuck up..NOT the OS's.

My issues with Windows 10 are the fact that it is still not as stable as Windows 7, I have seen MULTIPLE complaints of Windows 10 not running certain games which I would want to play, and there are still security issues that they need to sort out. Also, much like Windows 8, the way you use it is very different than previous versions. Lastly, I seriously HATE how it is set up to look and feel.

For me, Windows 7 is still the best choice. Others may find 10 to be much more preferable, and that is fine for them. For me, I would rather stick with what I am familiar with.

As for your reasons listed what most people bitch about W10, and thoughts on those reasons, I am in full agreement.
Being cautious and sensible, I have never been hacked. What OS I have run was irrelevant to the hack/no hack situation.
The few times I have had a harddrive die, it was due to me physically breaking it, or just getting a bad drive. The OS had nothing to do with it.
I have yet to get a virus. Then again, like with the hacking situation, I tend to be careful and sensible. I also run Kaspersky, and I keep it up to date.

IT system administrator here. I have to say from an IT point of view, Windows, in general, is a fucking pain in the ass. Windows can 't handle files efficiently, its file structure is disorganized, the CMD commands and scripting is inconsistent, and GPO/local policy/NTFS share permissions/Security permissions is an ungodly nightmare to sort through. Unix makes my life easy. :pinkiecrazy:

But if you're using Windows for what most people use it for: gaming and browsing the internet and streaming... yeah Windows is fine. I use Windows 10 in my gaming computer without any problems. Just keep your stuff up to date.

My problem with Win10 was I couldn't install or run any program that had a Created Date older than 3 years ago, or one that didn't have a certificate, without first unlocking the hidden Admin account, then switching to it. Which I had to do it at every reboot, because Win10 would try to lock and hide the Admin account often.
And at the time I tried Win10 my Ethernet, USB3, and ... something else, I can't remember, didn't have supported drivers.
The 128GB USB stick I used to install Win10 was locked into a weird partition format and only showed 8GB. Had to load up a Linux tool to fix it because Win7, 8 and 10 wouldn't touch it with any tool I downloaded.
There were a dozen more nitpicky problems (like really well hidden options, proprietary Wi-fi management, unsupported second monitor swapping) I had that made me hate 10 and convinced me to switch back to 8.

Another IT Person here, I use windows 10 for my home computer. The only legitimate complaint about Windows 10 is the fact that sometimes when it installs, you get stuck in in an update loop which requires a load of issues from IT side to solve. Other than that? I've not seen any issues.

And the whole virus protection thing? I've heard that from Mac people for as long as I've had my job. "It doesn't get viruses, its a mac" *Facepalm*

Yes, you are so right about all this. I'm running windows 10 and it is working perfectly with no issues, but I have Malware bytes, Norton 360, and for software fixes and efficiency I have System Mechanic. So yes it really isn't the softwares fault unless you have a really old motherboard and processor that may have difficulty runny Windows 10.

I had this problem, but it fixed itself after 36-ish hours in the loop. I say "fixed" but all I mean is it started up. The install was unsurprisingly bugged all to hell.(Watch movie=crash, play game=crash, do anything=crash) Went back to 8.1 for a while, then tried 10 again. No problems there on out.

Windows 7: Ultimate master race right here.

I actually run pretty much every OS under the sun here at my place for different reasons and purposes.
I find Windows in general really useful for...well, general use. I use Win 10 on the gaming rig, Win 7 on the legacy rig, Debain Linux on the home server, iOS on the tablets, OSX on a Mac lying in a corner. Pretty much only major one I don't run is Android. May look to changing that at some point but eh right now.

All of them have good and bad points, but at the end of the day they all follow basic computing principles which pretty much apply across the board, and I HATEHATEHATEHATE people being dumb about really basic shit.

it's hard being the tech guy, when everyone you support, are idiots with a computer

my old boss at a computer store i worked at.

point is, people are idiots, never be surprised, but prepare for the worst.
for instance, i am the family tech guy, anything goes wrong, i fix it, or try, and then get someone who can fix it. and if all else fails, i have my Red usb drive, accurately named "Fixer" as it has ALL tools for fixing ANYTHING short of a broken hard drive. it can scan for malware, adware, virus, trojans(virus inside a virus), clean system files for windows and linux, check for drive failures, and most common hardware failures, install 3 different operating systems(Ubuntu, windows 10, Kali Linux), has multiple versions of Hirens Boot CD, and multiple live operating systems for testing hardware. all in a small enough form factor, that if something goes wrong, i can bring it at any time, along with my other drives. only thing missing at this time, is a mini windows xp install, not run from Hirens Boot CD, and i can fix almost anything on all computers i ever run into.

Dear god i am so prepared for anything, except a total system failure, or a PSU giving up on life.
