    Glimpses 2 - Now Complete

Though it was a day late, hopefully, it's not a dollar short. I've posted the final chapter of Glimpses 2! I hope everyone enjoys the last chapter and enjoyed the story as I whole. I would also like to thank everyone that submitted suggestions to my blog about a month ago. The anthology would not have been nearly as interesting without your input!

Robots and Racing and Explostions · 4:31pm Sep 1st, 2012

Now for something completely not-pony related.

My day job is being a game programmer, and a company I work with has just released a game. I didn't do a lot of work on this game directly, but my role in the company as something of a lead engineer means I've had my hands in a lot of the projects to some degree.

So, knowing full well this is not pony related, I'm going to drop this link here. After all, who doesn't like robots racing a break neck speeds through a post-apocalyptic world. Oh, also the robots can transform into planes and low riding cars.

It's available for iPad and iPhone, and all the graphics below are from in-game. Yeah, it's great looking game.

Robot Race

What language do you usually program in ? Python ? Java ?

I prefer racing and robots, personally.

327824
Robot Race is done in Unity 3D with C#. Personally, I've done C++, C#, Java, Javascript, and some minor experience in other languages.

Great! I hope to be a programmer someday.

That...looks pretty awesome so I may just get it. :pinkiehappy:

AH, the obligatory self-promotion. :derpytongue2: The game looks a little generic, but I think I'll at lest take a look.
*Edit* Nuts. Unfortunately I don't have an i-device.

327832 For someone who is just beginning to learn programming, what language do you suggest to learn first? (which was most helpful?)

327836

At my university, where I started with very little programming experience, we started with C++. Other languages like C# and Javascript are more loosy goosy and let you get away with more. C++ is more rigid and you have to follow the rules more stringently, which can help develop good basic practices.

You won't be doing much more than command line programs at first, but I would recommend C++ as a starting point for a programmer.

327844 Thank you so much! I'll give it a try, though I heard it's hard. But I like a challenge.

Also, you probably get this a lot, but I love Past Sins. Like, a lot. Seriously, I think it's one of my favorite stories of all time. Just thought you should know. Also, you're god tier awesome.

Looks nice, except my nook stinks with stuff like this.

Neither racing nor robots are my style. I don't have any i[Devicegoeshere], I don't even have a regular cellphone.

My apologies.

If it's written in C# (my language of choice these days), what are the additional steps in your pipeline that is letting it run on iOS? I'm guessing there must be some sort of cross-compilation process?

327924
The Unity3d engine handles the compiling of C# to the Objective C that iOS runs on. It can also build to stand alone windows, mac, web, and other platforms.

It's a wonderful cross-platform engine.

327928 Ahh I see, cool. So, other platforms, any chance of this game being released for Android?

That game looks cool. I'll have to try it out!
Is it bad I haven't read Past Sins? I'm going to read it soon though! Don't yell at me :fluttershbad:
Your story A Drop of Moonshine made my ribs hurt from laughter
Don't ever stop writing :derpytongue2:

327935
Android is a viable release option, but developing for Android is a bit more difficult than iPhone. The reason is because there are SO many different kinds of androids, its hard to make a game that can handle all those different aspect ratios, resolutions, and hardware specifications.

My favorite artist is another programer?! :pinkiegasp:

It looks like it would be a fun game... Too bad I don't like Iphone-Ipad games. More of a console guy here...

Who knows, maybe I can get my brother to buy it. :pinkiehappy:

I don't Apple, and I don't mobile game, but if this comes out on Steam, I am buying it immediately. Will also recommend to friends.

Crap, if there's any thing better than to be a software developer, it has to be being a game developer. :pinkiehappy:
I wouldn't fancy being the lead engineer, though. But a low-level (I mean in hierarchy :pinkiecrazy:) programmer--definitely. :rainbowkiss: Ah, well. Back to developing banking software on Monday. :rainbowlaugh:

Robots and racing? You have my attention

Everything you make/help make/work with is awesome! I don't have any iDevices at the moment, but this game looks very nice dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/emoticons/misc_Spitfire_rape.png

Now if only the robots transformed into ponies...

Hold up, hold up.

My all-time favorite author, is also a game designer?!

Pen Stroke, my already huge respect for you has been doubled...

Btw, great looking game!:pinkiehappy:

>My day job is being a game programmer
My thing-I-do-when-I'm-not-on-Le-Internet is programming

327832 Unity dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/Spike_lolface.png

327836 C++

327844 Yep, C++ :moustache:

327928 >It's a wonderful cross-platform engine
Yeah, until you want to play your game on a Linux-based system dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/emoticons/shrug_Twilight_Sparkle.png
(WINE doesn't count)

For some reason I thought you were talking about this.

Unity eh? Any chance you can release it so we can play it on browser or something :/ HEY MAYBE KONGREATE they love unity games. idk maybe a demo version or something.
