Just your average Brony who happened upon an idea that might actually turn out to be clever enough for guys to love.

Pony POV World Building 101 'Let this be heard and understood!' · 9:58pm Apr 7th, 2016

Let this be heard and understood.
The kelpie, shown on a map in the 'Queen Crystal Returns' arc of the IDW comic, and then struck right after the two-issue arc with Trixie in what was IMHO the worst IDW issue ever in what could have been a fun premise with the pets saving the day and was ruined by a VERY BADLY written antagonist: do not exist, in any shape or form, in the Pony POV Series universe, never have, and never will. You're welcome.

If you don't know, then you're better off.

3855323 They're giant sea creatures that hypnotize with their song. I'm not sure what exactly Alex hates about them, but that's true about a lot of the things he hates. :ajbemused:

3855565 i know what a kelpie is mofugger i'm irish
i'm just wondering what he's bitching about
that comic was awesome

3855565

It was the IDW issue with one as a villain sue.

3855582

If you like villain sues who make Starlight Glimmer's forgiveness look downright hard earned.

3855604 "Sorry I almost made you drown yourselves and your kids." "Oh, no biggie, you were confused by how to travel rivers. It's all good!" I love forgiveness of villains as much (or more) than anybody, and that was too low a bar even for me.

Wait, weren't there kelpies or sirens in the comic issue where the Mane 6 became pirates? I don't think those were just sea ponies, we saw sea ponies in that issue where Discord takes the CMC and Flutters on a time traveling adventure.

My sentiments exactly.

They were called seaponies. And thank goodness for that.
Aquatic ponies seem divided between seaponies and mereponies.

3857235 I've seen that distinction a few times. I do like the idea of some kind of underground cold-war between the sea ponies and the mer ponies. The best are the ones where C'thulhu is basically their version of an alicorn.

3857284

King Leo seems to fill that role already.

3857352 Uh oh, just double-checked the Discord episode, those are explicitly kelpies in coltlantis. But that doesn't mean it justifies the previous issue. The kelpie in #23 looks vastly different from the kelpies in 24. In fact, I suspect this kelpie is a siren just like the dazzlings. In fact, this comic came out the same month as Rainbow Rocks. You know what else I notice? Those watersprites, the entire time we see them they are bound in the kelpie's magic. No one verifies anything, they just let the admitted ruthless enchantress swim off with her magically-held water sprites, and ignore the fact that they are moving them up-stream to get them "closer to the ocean."

I think Cassie did more than get a free reformation, I think she's a nightmare version of a kelpie/sea pony, and she tricked Ponyville into letting her abscond with her victims.

THAT... would be an interesting twist on the 'easily forgiven' thing.

I actually imagine Chrysalis doing a 'I'm reformed now, believe me' to play Starlight like a fiddle, Starlight not realizing how dangerous Chrysalis actually is.

3857439 "I'm reformed now, and I would like to prove it to you by helping you win the heart of that stallion you're so set on. As a changling I can sense the love you hold for him. All you need to do is sneak me and a few of my followers into the Crystal Empire so we can stay close and help you woo him in his hat-house. The Crystal Heart? Why would I or my hive have any interest in that love-producing artifact?

Come now Starlight, don't you think I deserve a second chance?"

3857570

Exactly. Chrysalis played freakin' CELESTIA don't forget.
